The benefits of healthy vaginal flora during pregnancy and childbirth are absolutely something we're trying to focus on. Thanks for the kind words!

Re: Sweet Peach Personalized Probiotics

Thanks Dad

Re: Sweet Peach Personalized Probiotics

Hi Ashley! There are different communities of microbes in different places i.e gut communities, genital communities, respiratory communities etc. And the probiotic will contain freeze-dried microbes which can withstand temperature variation while still remaining viable!

Re: Sweet Peach Personalized Probiotics

Hi Riley!
Thank you for your very thought-out message; you raised a lot of questions that I have been dealing with for months. For now, this is being marketed as a dietary supplement because there is no distinct regulation for probiotics in particular. This is something I think needs to change. I think it's lazy and misguided to regulate probiotics as a dietary supplement, but at the same time I'm not sure it should be regulated as a drug either (largely due to the fact that there are no reported adverse incidents of probiotic usage in people who are not immunocompromised). As you mentioned, probiotics are becoming a hot topic in medicine and I think keeping up this dialog is really important to better evaluating probiotics and where they stand in the medical world.

The sequencing is to identify the microflora community of any woman in particular. There has been really telling research (see Jacques Ravel et al's work on the vaginal microbiome of reproductive age women) that showed that women can have different communities from any other woman. These differences are not arbitrary nor are they unimportant to consider when dealing with risk assessment and treatment. I think this is forcing us to rethink the outdated notion that we can declare any vagina to be healthy or unhealthy based on some standard. All women's vaginas are different, and we need to cater to this.

In terms of the probiotic makeup, it will mostly look to her community at hand and we will introduce more of the major beneficial players in her community. That's the complement part. By categorizing and more importantly characterizing microbes and their specific functions (in terms of antibacterial/antifungal/etc. compound production), and how specific microbes with specific functions can provide specific protective measures to the host, we can design a thoughtful and effective probiotic tailored to the needs of any woman. There is no one healthy vaginal microbiome composition, so we're trying to help promote and maintain whatever a healthy vaginal microbiome means to any woman.

SweetPeach definitely wants to do clinical studies and trials with placebos and other probiotics to test efficacy, largely because I'm pretty sure the results will be super positive. I think thoughtful probiotic production rooted in science is fundamentally necessary to sort of push probiotics from the realm of pseudoscience and into the realm of actual potential therapy.

If you want to talk more, please don't hesitate to reach out; I'm at audreyhutchinson@sweetpeachprobiotics.com

Best,
Audrey

Re: Sweet Peach Personalized Probiotics

For now it's just USA, but I want to get it to you in Canada ASAP!
