With sales revenue down 97% I can understand why. That is neither here nor there, and as long as they exist as a corporation then they will try everything in the book to generate revenue. If that means putting a box on someone's head then far be it from them to establish dignity. I, for one would have refused that request.

Secondly, I'd like to give you a simple and non-invasive idea on how to spin this to your advantage. Forget trying to sell a big traveler of coffee to an individual. No one is going to drink that much coffee at a clip, except maybe my wife. It's the GROUP that you're looking to sell to. Try this:

Cust: I'll have a venti Pike's with four sugars and skim.
B.A.Barista: Cool. Coming right up. Hey, I don't know if you're aware or not, but we're doing something special for folks who are buying coffee for their coworkers/boss/spouse/street urchins this month.
Cust: Oh yeah?
B.A.B: Yep. We're basically taking six cups of our {insert adjective here} coffee and instead of charging you five-fifty a cup (I don't know the prices) we're putting it in a break room size dispenser and giving you all the cups, sugar, utensils, etc to make that morning meeting less hostile. (laugh)
Cust: really?
B.A.B.: Yeah, it's a pretty good deal, and you know that most people like Starbucks a little better than the usual Office stuff, right?! {smile}
Cust: Heh. That's true.
B.A.B. So, are you gonna be the office hero today? (This is your close. Word it carefully, ask it while nodding yes and then wait until they make a decision to speak again. Remember, no one wants to be the office anti-hero.)
Cust: Yeah, let's go with that.
B.A.B. Awesome. Let me just get it together for you, it'll be right out.

If they say no, at any point in the process just respond with an "Okay, that's cool." and go about your business.

Like I said, you're not going to sell every one, but if you stay consistent, and just ASK everyone then you'll do fine.

Hope that helps, and don't stress.

Re: WRECK & SALVAGE

This is pretty much the best video ever. There does not need to be any more filming of anything after this video.

It completely changes everything.

Re: 147xxxx - a funny woman singing a musical theater song about...

That'd be the ever so talented (and super quirky/hot) Kristen Chenoweth.

Re: WRECK & SALVAGE

That picture is amazing..

Also, Birth Control Glasses FTW.

Re: I am just so TORN.

Two things,

Number 1, I am completely enthralled with your tumbelog. It's nice to see a little fresh perspective.

Secondly, as a retail manager I have to say that the Barista in question should have just done the right thing and served the customer their coffee the way that they like. It's not innovative thinking that drives sales and profits. It's customer orientation. If you cannot accept that there are cheap people (ala this customer and the "ghetto-latte" crowd) then the retail business is not for you. (Not directed at you, just a general opinion)

The same trait that circumvents the system is the one that's responsible for our evolution.
