It's not entirely their fault - it's a fault of the compensation systems they are under and the business owners not overseeing what is really going on.

As for your comment "I’m surprised that affiliate managers and Outsourced Program Managers (OPMs) haven’t jumped on all of this." - really? Is it such a surprise.

Maybe I'm just getting cynical but until the business owners adjust the compensation to reward AM's to address issues that can reduce commissions but reduce risk and increase profits, it shouldn't be a surprise.

Luckily some AM's out there are ahead of the curve doing the right thing, and helping to clean up their programs at the risk of losing some commissions.

Re: 22 Tons of Fake Beef Seized in China

I bet even the pork they started with was fake...

Re: Six Opportunities Steve Ballmer Missed at Microsoft

@Matthew K - there's actually 7. If they have affiliate programs they are going to be subjected to typo domain affiliate commission theft. As 95% of the revenue is generated by 5% of the affiliates (or even less), most of the savvy 5% affiliates will simply sign up directly and cut out refer.ly. That leaves them with little traffic left to share.

Re: This YouTube Break Up Hurts

UPDATE DEC 1, 2011 - Christmas came early today. I got this email from YouTube, after trying to contact them for an appeal:

Hi there,

Thanks for your email.

After a review of your account, we have confirmed that your YouTube

account is not in violation of our Terms of Service. As such, we have

unsuspended your account. This means your account is once again active and

operational.

==============

So my vlogging account is back online, except for my most popular video which simply explains affiliate marketing. We pay for those services out of our taxes so it's not like it's "free" here.

The point here is that the misguided legislators seem to have come up with some zany law that basically is a lose/lose scenario, since the retailers will obv. cut off those affiliates, resulting in reduced income for the affiliates, and thus less tax revenue for California. Similarly large advertising and affiliate networks will suffer reduced ad spend by affiliates in California.

Surely based on previous experience in other states, the California law makers could have worked out a better solution to increase their out-of-state online tax revenue while keeping those performance marketers in business and paying their taxes in California, no?

Re: This YouTube Break Up Hurts

Video blogger Gideon Shalwick gives some advice to avoid the "YouTube Kiss of Death", and also posts an audio interview with David Jenyns here:
http://gideonshalwick.com/y...

...but it's still a mystery who they are targeting and why... and how to get your account reinstated if you feel you didn't violate their terms

Re: This YouTube Break Up Hurts

David Jenyns had it happen to him, but somehow he got it back:
http://www.davidjenyns.com/...

Re: This YouTube Break Up Hurts

Thanks John!

Re: This YouTube Break Up Hurts

Paul Colligan's related post here: http://www.paulcolligan.com...
