Great article - thanks for sharing your findings. Do you think this would apply well to contextual advertising instead of using LPs? By the way, having a CTR of more than 10% is amazing... of the LPs I've ever done, I've yet to get anything close to that yet. Not sure if you can throw a bone my way on that :)

Great sharing, Craig. There's so much goodness packed in this article!

Especially the part about creating more products to sell to your own people - while making money from affiliate products is cool, it's really a trade off in the long run as you've basically introduced someone else that your current users can buy from.

Not to say that you can't do affiliate promotions, just have to be careful with who you're promoting. So when the customer ultimately profits from his product through your recommendations, the customer will keep coming back.

I don't know how complex the algorithm is but I personally think that they still hold some kind of influence. It may not be a lot but it's still some... the thing is they (celebrities) have a mass of followers who are interested in what they do. But these celebrities work for other people and in my humble opinion, don't really represent 1 specific thing strongly.

They're just "fun".

But 0.1% of 5 million followers is still 5,000 clicks to a link in their tweet (if they have it). I'm particularly relieved that "they found that experts in certain fields were much more likely to cause topics of discussion to become trends".

There's hope yet!

Point well made, Rezbi. It's important to have an interesting message to bring across to the reader. Long and short copy both sell... but boring copy does not.
