The daily motion of the sun was a fiery chariot driven across the sky by a god. While it made sense at the time, later discoveries proved the myth to be a charming story, dispelled by reality.

Of late, a “myth” is being floated around Deep River, falsely explaining Nancy Talbot’s selection as the party candidate for Town Clerk by the Democratic Town Committee.

THE MYTH: Nancy Talbot was selected for the nomination because her brother was chair of the Democratic Town Committee.

THE REALITY: Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the initial recommendation of Nancy Talbot as a possible candidate came from Jeanne Nickse, the retiring Town Clerk, out of her concern as to who would continue the tradition of excellence we have come to expect from that office.

While Nancy is Rick Daniels’ sister, she has created her own record of service to Deep River: PTO president; Park & Rec member; director, Park & Rec summer programs; Building Dept secretary; volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels & Soup Kitchen; Daisy/Brownie leader; and designer & webmaster of Town website. In addition, Nancy was an elected member of the Board of Assessment Appeals; an election moderator; and Deputy Registrar of Voters. During her years of service to this community, Nancy has continually demonstrated great skill and attention to detail, combined with a personal commitment to Deep River.

Don’t get taken in by myths; vote on reality. Nancy Talbot will be a superb Town Clerk. Her record proves that. I am asking all Deep River Democrats to vote for Nancy Talbot in the primary on Tuesday, September 15.
