I've been trying to drop a few pounds by carefully tracking and measuring what I eat so this was a timely post for me. I've found that as long as you can avoid going too extreme and allowing the measuring to get to the point of obsession then it's a really useful tool for personal accountability. I actually think now before I shove a handful of chips into my mouth. Am I really hungry? Just bored? etc?

Re: The Best Approach To A Board Package

Sounds like a really effective approach. It requires a little discipline from all parties, but I think if you can manage to break the bad habits, the benefit will be a really powerful discussion. Can't wait to try it.

Re: The Convertible Note Discount Price Cap

Ryan I'm trying to figure out exactly how the Valuation Cap works and when I do the math, I'm getting ownership of around .83 vs. your .88 number. Can you explain in detail how you came to that ownership number?

I tried taking the Note Investment ($100,000) / (Series A amount ($2,000,000) + The Cap (10,000,000)). And got .83%.

Then I tried taking the Note Investment ($100,000) / (Series A amount ($2,000,000) + the Cap (10,000,000) + the Note Invesment ($100,000)). And got .82%.

What am I missing?

Re: Listen – Do Customer Service After Launch

Completely agree with this. The management team at our company has been handling customer service and it's helped us learn about everything from features that confuse our users to payment options that we wouldn't have thought of on our own.

I don't know when "customer service" started to be thought of as only a job that should be done by more entry-level staffers, but I think that mentality is really damaging to a company. Customers are the core of a business so serving them should be a priority at every level of the team.

Re: http://blog.eventvue.com/post/372936164

Completely agree Kevin. Regardless of the current outcome, Rob & Josh have proven to be entrepreneurs of the highest caliber. It's evident even in reading this introspective, intellectually honest post-mortem that these guys have learned a ton (and taught us a ton in the past 2 years!). There will definitely be great things to come from Rob & Josh. I wish you guys the best!

Re: 25 Dates.

If you're serious about this you should try to track down a 1999 mockumentary called "20 Dates" http://www.imdb.com/title/t.... Basically this guy Myles Berkowitz does the exact same thing (albeit with 5 fewer dates, one of which was Tia Carrere) "to save his love life and his career". In real life, he's a filmmaker who never ended up making another movie, so I'm not sure how well that worked out for him. However, that could have something to do with its 4.9/10 IMDB rating. But for you I'd say it's worth seeing for research.

Re: The Porn Industry Wants a Bailout?

Bhard has more updates than I remember! I was an early user and basically got frustrated because their suggestions weren't matching up with my tastes. After reading your post I decided to give them another try. Seems like they've definitely improved the algorithm. And just in time because I've been getting sick of listening to the same stuff on my iTunes. So far so good.

Re: They Growz Up So Fast!

Thanks Micah. In fact, seeing the way somebody behaves with their friends can probably tell you a lot more about who that person really is than a Google/fb/flickr/twitter stalk session in my opinion.

The group atmosphere also leads to a healthier form of transparency. On a one-on-one date we might be able to craft a quasi-fictional persona that fits within the story created by our online identity. However our friends - at least mine - call us out on our bullshit and don't let us pretend to be someone or something that we're not. The group setting keeps us honest in a way that is more organic than Google.

Re: Big News From the NVCA Annual Meeting

This is awesome news for the NVCA. A few of our mentors would come in and starting speaking at us about what we should be doing with our company without fully taking the time to understand exactly what we did and what we were hoping to accomplish with it. These were mentors that we rarely called upon again. Rather the mentors who really took a few minutes to listen to exactly what problem we were trying to solve, those mentors always seemed to add the most value in the long run.

Re: Top 5 Online Dating Site Trends

To follow up on Dan's comment, here's a link to a story Mashable did on the Group Dating trend: http://mashable.com/2008/08...

Re: Today is Not Me-Ha day, its You-Ha day

Thanks for the kind mention Micah.
