There aren't many of us bloggers left who are actually posting on a consistent basis. Someone should make a list! My blogging process isn't nearly as advanced as yours, Gini. Never has been. And, I kinda like it that way. I do have a process (I usually write most of my content on the weekend mornings, for example) and I have a content strategy (my PR Rock Star profiles are always among my most popular post--which is good for me in a variety of ways). But, part of blogging for me is merely this: It's fun. I love to write. Not every topic needs to link back to a service or offering I provide. Sometimes, I just want to rant, or talk about an interesting case study. Over the years, I've resisted the notion of making my blog too much about my business. Of course, there is a link. Of course I have an approach. But, I like the fact that my blog has never been overly planned out or overly-relying on the data. I kinda like that I can write about various topics when I'm inspired. So, in that way, things have never changed. For inspiration, I'm much like you--I use Feedly, I read LinkedIn, and I read various aggregators to help me find articles throughout each day. I find much of my inspiration there--or in coffee meetups I have with people throughout any given week. Great topic though--fun to think back how things have changed--or not changed--the last 10-plus years!

Re: How I Did With My 2017 Predictions

Good prediction on #6. I didn't see a ton of people talking about that at the start of the year. Nice work!

Re: Content shock re-visited, the content marketing myths and realities

Re: your HBR note at the top of the post, I would argue it has less to do with "content shock" and more to do with timing/quality of content. It might have been your most researched post to date, but maybe it just didn't hit the editor right in terms of timing. Also: Who says you HAVE to be in HBR? You're right--HBR is tougher to get into. But, maybe that's a good reason to go a different direction? When everyone is doing one thing--it's usually best to go a different way. Finally, re: the "content shock" concept, I actually think it's a good thing for marketers/PRs. Flip the thinking--with all this garbage content out there, it's a prime opportunity for those creating quality content (like you) to stick out. Didn't happen this time with HBR apparently, but I would argue this whole content shock thing makes it easier for the people who know what they're doing--not tougher.

Re: How to Podcast: A Two-Part Series

My podcast partner-in-crime and I use Zencastr to record via the web and it works much better than Skype. Life seems to come at you in waves sometimes, doesn't it? You got a big tidal wave, it seems. But, you survived. You're better for it. And now, as a result of this blog, you've met all sorts of wonderful people who now call you "friend." I'd say you won. I get similar pitches (probably not as many as you :) and the thing I marvel at (besides the utter lack of relevance for at least half of them) is how they don't make it easy. Much like you, I have a full-time consulting business. I blog. I have a young family. I have zero free time. You HAVE to make it easy for me. Otherwise, you're wasting your (and my) time.

Re: From haircuts and lakes to insurance and corn

Glad you found a way back into the financial services industry, since I know that's a huge interest of yours. Personal brands exist--whether we want them to or not. No big breaking news there. But, the term does bug me. I really just refer to it as your reputation, because that's really what we're talking about, right? I heard a wise man once say: Your "personal brand" is what people say about you once you leave the room. I thought that was spot on.

Re: On Benefit and Bonuses, or How I Let Down My Only Employee

Love #2--you're inspiring me! I took #4 to heart this year. Actually my son forced it. He has four different weeks during the year where we don't have daycare and he doesn't have school. So, we're using that as an excuse to take vacay. And, one of those trips is happening in a couple weeks when I come your way to hit Augusta! :)

Re: Why I’m Trading New Year’s Resolutions for a Bucket List

Great list! My big ideas very rarely come to me while sitting in front of a computer or chatting online. Can't be a coincidence.

Re: 5 (Better) Reasons I’m Pumped for MIMA Summit 2011

I actually think we should go Challenge of the Superfriends on this.
