I find when I've chosen not to listen to God (as we all do from time to time) He manages to re-capture my attention through the parental teachings of his grand kids. :-)) Gotta love a Father who knows you that well.

Re: A Lesson of Dew'ing

The 'continue' thing was pretty tricky and not the perfect solution. In fact, I would only add that we are called to hold each other accountable to each other by the common faith we have declared to God via our confession, believing & receiving Jesus into our lives.

I think it's also fair to say that you didn't continue to smoke pot because you thought it was ok. You continued doing it knowing it was wrong but being unable or unwilling at the time to quit. I believe you are correct in the sense that God also knew you would need time (grace) to figure it all out. I find myself thanking God that I to may have that same time to figure it all out.

Thank you Tyler. I have a new insight to ponder on further. May God continue to bless you with wisdom and may she always be our best friend.

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Robert,

My Internet connection is down at home so I can respond to you like I want to. Make sure you get a free bible app as I feel you may need it (as I already have it) when discussing things on the fly.

As for the gay example... and please, only as an example... what does Romans 1:18-31 mean to you? How do you distinguish the sin from the "sinner" in this case? As I read it and understand it... these people at one point clearly knew God (not sure the gravity of the term "knew") but it says they gave it up to pursue unholy relations and death was their punishment.

Re: aubreysanchez DOT com

The "Woo Woo" part of this video is played as part of an intro clip on either Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly or someone. Robert I pray we can sharpen our wits together. We both come from different points of view. We're seeing the same accident of life. We're both just using what we know, experienced, & teachings to make an observation of the situation, which is mainly based on the direction we came from.

It's a good thought to consider learning about those who wrote the canon or helped shape what we call the Bible today. However, as a Judeo-Christian I accept it when they say all scripture is god-breathed. I trust God that He influenced those who connected the writings together to create the Bible so, I go with it like that. Just as I have read the Declaration of Independence because of what it means to America... I did not go back and study the lives of those who help framed it. Nor would I fault anyone who does. They will certainly have much more knowledge and perspective as to why the Fathers chose the context of it. But, to be totally transparent, my fear is other people who wish to change the meaning of the it are also going back and using the history of the individual framers as a way of re-writing the purpose or essence of the DoI.

Let's say I wrote a Will. I put down my every intent for my belongings. Then I die and maybe it takes several months to find it because I had secured it away privately. Upon finding it, my relatives start arguing over the fact that I gave all my possessions to Aubrey. For them that simply makes no sense. So they take my Will & Aubrey to court telling the judge that "because they know me better" it was never my intent to give everything to Aubrey, I must have meant something different.... blase' blase' -- The truth is, it doesn't matter what they think I meant and it doesn't matter if they go through my entire life... what should be relevant is only what I wrote in my Will.

I say all that to say, I think as "christians" we are fighting over God's Everlasting Will & Testament. Some of us don't agree about how it was written. So we choose to ignore it, mix it up, or discount it in-part or in whole because it's so old. My goal is to know & however plausible execute God's EW&T for my life and the world around me. Again, I validate what you've shared with me (us) and I truly thank you for your point of view.

I think I'm off to the next topic: Practical Atheism. See you there?

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Tyler, You make great points as well. This is the kind of thing that should happen in churches all over. True, heartfelt, biblical discussion. I honestly don't think Robert was here to argue though I can see where it might seem that way. I believe Robert believes in his teachings and to him those things do matter. However, I tend to practice "walk away" theology. It's where you can have a random meeting with someone and share the love of God with them... and hopefully before having to walk away, you influence them to open the Bible for themselves. For now, the issue is I believe less & less "christians" are reading their bibles and are turning to more "feel good" "sounds right" theology. No one is checking to see if what their being taught is true. All we need is a great sounding pastor and "view a verse" on the side screens and we're good. These days, there's no encouragement or outward "example" of why opening it is necessary. Just trust the 'teacher' -- to me that's blind faith. The only viable faith is one placed on the Word of God. Why? Because His words never fail.

Also, you made an example about being gay & christian. Where you speaking figuratively? The two can not go together according to scripture. While I would agree that one can clearly be a christian struggling with the temptation of a gay lifestyle (as Paul did with the torn in his side... *note, no one really knows what that 'torn' was) to embrace that lifestyle, according to Romans, would be to move against God. It would begin to mess up their relationship with God. Sin, any sin unchecked messes up our relationship with God. We must do our best to repent from the sins that influence our lives away from him. It's not easy, it may not happen overnight, but we must fight to free ourselves from anything that binds us. Does that make since?

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Robert,

I can tell you are well learned in the school of theology. I would guess at a seminary of sorts; for the things you speak of clearly can not be concluded just from reading the Word of God within the context of the Bible. Please don't take that negatively, I only mean that you have no scripture references to back up your conclusions. So we are at a impasse, because my theology is bound by the context of the Bible. If you can reference your points more to biblical canon, maybe our discussion can continue.

I've enjoyed our discussion Robert. I feel sharpened in my beliefs and I am confident that while I may not explain my views as well as you... I hope one day to be able to more effectively within the scriptures of God.

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Robert,

Thanks for your extended reply. I honestly had much to say about it but, I can't respond without writing a novel. Maybe we can agree on this... that God's sovereign will is anything that can't be changed based on man's intervention. However, to begin to dissect which scriptures are sovereign and which are not is too complex for the set purpose of us having the Bible in the first place.

Whether or not the examples of Saul & Moses are worthy of being evidence to God's sovereignty or simply desire, I'm not sure. But we do know it was his will for Saul to be King ('cause he was) and we do know it was God's will for the Israelites to enter into the Promise Land ('cause they did) and that was to include Moses as he also was an Israelite. - So God's word in both cases came to pass in spite of Man's intervention. The issue of Moses not going in was to his disqualification just as those who died in the desert were in essence disqualified. And while I may live for God today, I do not live with the assumption that I can willfully disobey God repeatedly (as they did) and still make it into Heaven as we so religiously term it. I too would be disqualified.

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Chris... I appreciate you. I'm a black & white kind of guy. Your words are either helping someone or hurting someone. I wasn't implying you hate christians... I was saying calling someone an idiot for speaking their view which is contrary to yours is hateful. Let's be honest... it sure wasn't loving, or constructive. You could have said it because you hate christians... but, I never took my statement that far nor did I discern that conclusion.

My original point though was to simply say ... when someone goes off on you, especially someone calling themselves a christian... our response should be from James 1:19-20 " 19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires." - Amen.

Re: Elisha Arlan | Rock, Paper, Web? - 7 Days of Pleasure Challenge

Oh... it's coming. Well said... I actually used the example of Moses. He was to go into the Promised Land (God's will) but, because of his free will to disobey God, he was forbidden to enter in. However, God still being loving... didn't hold that against the other Israelites plus, he made a way for Moses to watch as they entered in... sort of like a "Moses, look your people will be ok".

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Chris,

I'm sure you meant well by your reply. But this is why Christians are so ineffective. Not only do we disagree with each other, we use words of slander like "What an idiot" to describe how we think about each other, which in itself is hateful. It's like we love the world and hate ourselves. I for one didn't vote for Obama either in-part because I didn't believe he was a Christian. Calling yourself one isn't enough. It seems today the term "Christian" is just a shorter lingo for someone saying "I believe in God". But, since we know demons believe in him also, shouldn't our standard of identity be much higher than that? Jesus thought so.

If we truly want to make a difference, let's start by showing love for one another and using other terms of encouragement.

Re: I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but........

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: aubreysanchez DOT com

That's so awesome! - Can you email me the name of the program you used to jailbreak your iPhone?
