I agree that with some tightening up, you are almost done with this. It no longer looks overwhelming with images and you've worked out the pacing a lot better. I would follow Chris's comments about type and consistency and see where you are. Nice piece!

Re: Hasbro 11.26

Hi Lisa. I personally LIKE the circles, but agree that you need more of them, and they should emanate from certain elements of the photos/artwork. I think improving your headlines and type weights will help you a lot. Good job!

Re: Gosnell - Update 11/26 (2 of 2)

Hi Patrick. I like this cover option better. I think the bottom ribbon piece is distracting, but it might just be the jagged edge. Most of my comments have been covered. I would work on some of the spacing areas Chris points out, and I'd definitely enjoy seeing those charts bigger. Good work!

Re: Scholastic Annual Report 11.26

Hi Alexa. Good progress on your AR. Just a few things- On page 3, your left margin looks a lot bigger than your right one, making it look uncentered. On the Reading Bill of Rights pages, I would stick to the layout of the first spread: One full-bleed photo, and one blue page with text only. Also, as I think Chris noted, the use of italic type doesn't seem necessary, or it should be more conisistent.

Re: WRIGHT-American Greetings AR

Thanks, Lisa! Yes, I used only 2 typefaces in that lettering technique, but several different weights for each. I can see how it is making the overall message hard to read. I am going to play around with different techniques. Thanks for your ideas!

Re: WRIGHT-American Greetings AR

Yeah, I like the idea of an envelope book! Then I could include each section as a double-sided post card. I think with the envelope, and the other elements, it would still give the feeling of opening a greeting card.

Re: Benihana AR

Steph, great progress! I don't have much critique for you because you are on the right track. I would echo Chris's point about quieting down a bit. I think maybe you have too many images? I get a feeling of being overwhelmed. But like you said, you can pare it down as you go. I also found myself wanting to see more of that 3 on the cover, or images like it. Did you stage the photo? If so, maybe you could use the technique in other ways?

Re: Benihana

Steph, all three of these moodboards are well thought out. Good job there. My personal favorite is #3. I love the color palette. I think it is sophisticated and modern while still conveying the mood and the food (rhyme!). I'm excited to see what you come up with.

Re: Scholastic

Alexa, all of these directions seem appropriate to your subject matter, so you will be good whichever you choose. I like the 2nd one best. I think Chris's links provide some great inspiration for the type of illustration and graphics to include. Large, simple shapes in bold colors is pretty much a timeless style for children's books.

Re: Hasbro Sketches and Styleboards

Lisa, what a fun annual report this is going to be! I like the Monopoly theme in #1, but I think you could add some elements from the other versions' layouts. For instance, I like the placement of the play money and the game pieces in version 3. The Monopoly game seems like an appropriate theme to me because it is about finances.

Re: GOSNELL – Annual Report Sketches

YAY! Nice progress! I really like the polaroids, particularly that one with the cupcakes. Brilliant. I'm not sure about the one with the singer though, because we will automatically wonder if this is someone famous, or who it is, and how they relate to this project, taking away from the content. All the content looks good to me, but I wonder if you could reverse the "P" in Impossible here, too? As for your timer button, it fits a lot better now. I would remove the P though, because it makes it unclear if this is just a logo icon, or a button to push, and what the "P" stands for.

Re: Lowline Box Revised 10.15

Hi Lisa. I really like your progress! Seeing it with the arches punched out really makes a difference. As for the vellum issue, I recently used Rub Onz transfers (which are inkjet printable) to transfer graphics onto vellum and it worked just fine. They are available at Hobby Lobby: http://shop.hobbylobby.com/...

Re: Mailer 5

Hi Chris. I like where you are going here! This new way of persuading recipients to donate is much more direct, and enticing. I hope will have time to flesh this all out. I look forward to seeing it. Also, I'd be happy to proofread if you need it! :)

Re: Eat My {Heart} Out - Direct Mail Piece 10.15

Hi, Alexa. Chris covered most of my comments, but on the subject of page numbers, rather than add a couple more pages, you could have the mailable middle page just be loose. If the outer pages are one sheet, folded in half, the interior page could fit inside, and then the sticker would hold it all together. However, with a loose sheet, the positioning of the mad lib might move around, which would not happen if it was all bound together. Just an alternative solution to consider.

Re: GOSNELL - Stage 3: Impossible Instant Lab

Nice solution with the layered matboard. That should work great, I would think. I like Alexa's suggestion of the red "shoot" button if you can factor that in. Also looking forward to seeing how you type treat the polaroid photos.

Re: Throw to Grow progress

Looking good, Steph. I don't have much to suggest right now. Just looking forward to the trompe l'oeill effect!

Re: Mailer 4

Looks like you've found some good resources. The decoder glasses will be such a great interactive touch. One suggestion: You spelled "Annihilation" wrong on the first file. :)

Re: Lowline box

I am on board with the rotoscoping and can't wait to see what you do with it!! Also, I know the vellum would look cool, but if you don't need it, I would go without. The package stands on it's own very well. Great progress!!

Re: Eat My {Heart} Out - Direct Mail Piece

I agree with Chris that maybe this idea is not best suited to one page, front and back. Multiple pages might be better, and in that case- what about a notepad-type piece that mimics an actual MadLibs pad?

Re: ARTC5332: 2012F | Here is the prototype I’m working on with...

So far I have used rub-onz transfer decals, which are fragile. I would LOVE to see a demo!

Re: ARTC5332: 2012F | Here is the prototype I’m working on with...

The only printed piece will be the produce tag/card which has branding on the front, event info and kickstarter push on the back. One thing I would try to keep in mind whatever route you choose, is giving people a good reason to donate. Remember what Chris said in class about "losing out on stories" or "what stories won't be told" if the project is not successful? Since they already have one successful location, and this isn't a social/environmental cause, it may be harder to convince people to give money to it. You need to show them how they would really be missing out. I think this can be taken care of in the copy, as long as you factor it in from the beginning.

Re: ARTC5332: 2012F | The Lowline : An Underground Park on NYC’s Lower...

Lisa- I love your ideas for #2 and #3. The light in an unexpected place, in both cases, is fun. The miniature aspect in #2 is great, also. Immediately engaging. In case you didn't already know this, you can buy LED tea lights, which may work better for a print project, to avoid the flame + paper combo. I can't name a store that carries them for sure, but lucky for you it is Halloween season, so I'm sure you will see them for jack-o-lanterns and luminarias. :)
