I enjoy the convivial and laid back atmosphere. My favorite episode is #98 Behind the Man Behind the Muppets. I liked the dialogue and hope you have more episodes like that where the two of you talk about a book or movie or something. It's much more interesting than a straight book review or an interview with an author. I also hope you will have portfolio episodes with people who perhaps have a brick and mortar business or work a corporate job and also have a parallel career in a creative field.

Re: The Bitch Slap: 9 out of 10

Great post.

I find that The Person has personas as well. I offer info about myself to another person based on what they can handle, and to protect my mind, so I'm not the same person to all people. Or maybe I just have multiple persona disorder. ;-)

BTW, I'm a first time commenter here and discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago. Before finding your blog I never would have thought I'd seek out bitch slaps, but now I do.

Re: How to write believable copy

Thank you for your comment, Judith, and for stopping by. I would be honored to have you as a subscriber.

I've read on the Susan Howatch Yahoo group that if you write to her in care of her UK publisher, HarperCollins, you might get a reply. Others have. You're right, we should write and express our appreciation to her. Good idea.

I just came across this video of Howatch: http://www.meettheauthor.co...

Re: A cure for writer’s block?

Hi James,

Thank you for your comment. Thanks for mentioning it! I just listened to it on YouTube. Santana's guitar is amazing.

And what you say about the kids ages 6-15 years old having duels makes me think that Alexa could probably get my younger girls sold on the idea of princesses with weapons and would participate with them. So there's hope yet. :-)

Re: The Flight of NC5011C

Thanks for your comment, Sam. Having a bunch of employees dependent on you could cut down on charitable giving. By the way, that book also says conservatives give more than liberals. :-)

Also, I forgot to mention before that your point about people avoiding smaller houses because they tend to be in bad neighborhoods is one I hadn't considered. Maybe my circumstances are unusual, in that I live in an area where large homes built in the 1940s-60s are intermingled with small 1950s ranches and everyone takes care of their property and we all co-exist peacefully. There are also many neighborhoods in Madison that are all houses from the 1950s-60s, not in excess of 2000 square feet, and they are well-cared for homes. I suppose out in the suburbs and exurbs it's more likely your choices are either McMansion or small house in a less desirable part of town. I dunno. Glad I live in Madison. :-)

Re: On obese houses and low square feet diets

I, too, marvel at how empty nesters sometimes upsize their houses. And I agree that taxes don't change beliefs. Forced redistribution of wealth isn't where the answer lies, yet I continue to be plagued these days by Jesus's statements about wealth and the ostentatious display of it.

Re: It’s time to take Christ out of Christmas

Thanks for your comment, Ryan. In the book "Who Really Cares," the author Arthur Brooks says people with lower incomes give 30% more of their income to charity than rich people and one of the reasons this is so is because they are far more likely to empathize with the struggles of others. So I wonder if rich people would give more if the government stopped providing aid. Somehow I doubt it.

Jesus's words about hoarding wealth are very very convicting. He never spoke about abortion or homosexuality but talked a lot about the perils of wealth.

Re: Autumn Meadow Missive

Hmmm. I agree about limitations. And it's surprisingly difficult to write 50 word stories. It's agonizing to have, say, 52 words and have to figure out which words to cut. 6 word stories are even harder.

Re: In which we parents try to start worrying about the right things

Thanks for your comment, Sharie! Although anyone can improve their writing skills, there are many intangible things about the writing process (all of which occur before sitting down and putting words on the page) that can't really be taught.

Re: Improving Stewardship in Your Parish

Will a recording of the webinar be made available afterwards?

Thanks for this series of posts.
