I never said anything about abusing religious freedom. Back in the 1950s, the U.S. Supreme Court banned religious prayers in public schools even though the first amendment forbids any restriction of religious freedom. The Justices concluded that freedom of religion does not mean you get to impose your views on others. In the case of York University and that aikido teacher from Nova Scotia, freedom of religion should not give you the right to insult people because of their gender. Stop twisting my words!

Although I consider each religion as turd, I believe that this hierarchy must still guarantee freedom of conscience. Because of what we've seen in recent years with Muslim and Sikh extremists and Hassidic Jews, Canada must sadly implement a hierarchy of rights that aims religions.

For starters, of all fundamental rights (equality, non-racial discrimination, etc.), religions is ironically, the only one that can infringe on others! We must protect our society against ill-advised individuals who are ready to pander to religious bigots by tolerating sexism. The recent case at York University comes to our mind. Last time I checked, sexual segregation is not tolerated under the parts of our law that guarantee gender equality.

When religions are not used to insult women, it is used to disparage all men. Think of the Muslim headscarf or, worse, shroud. Many women who claim to wear one of these "by choice" often say they want to be modest and don't want to tempt men. Such a claim is based upon the premise that all men are lusting pigs or potential rapists. As a man, I am insulted. It attacks one of my fundamental rights: the right to be considered innocent, honest, rational and law-abiding until proven by the law to be a public danger to women.

Secondly, including religions among disabilities as a motive to seek a reasonnable accommodation is a preposterous lie. Let me be clear: a person in a wheelchair, when seeking an accommodation from his employer, must prove why he wouldn't be able to function/work without having access to a special ramp. In the case of religions, no claimants have been able to prove that they wouldn't be able to work or function without their religious signs/beliefs from 9 to 5. Oh wait! They need to have their "freedom of conscience" respected. They can't be a "part-time adherent to a religion". Guess what bros, many people, including Muslims and you name it, are able to work and function without flashing their religion!

Thirdly, religious accommodations are a nuisance. For instance, by allowing members of the Lev Tahor sect, a fundamentalist sect of Judaism, to exert a stranglehold on their children, we deprive these youngsters of one right: the right to be educated and be prepared to attend college/university! By allowing a Sikh to wear his turban while driving a motorcycle, we exempt him from our laws regarding road safety. Moreover, by allowing someone to not receive medical treatments because of his/her religion, we force doctors to commit murders against their will.

Let's admit it: freedom of religion is *the* least important of all fundamental rights because it is a can of worm and fundamentalism is unfortunately there to stay. This is why Canada must implement a hierarchy of rights whether we like it or not.

No, I'm not embarrassed at all to write "Canadian city". I'm just embarrassed to see that the word "Toronto" is never mentionned in the show. I'm also embarrassed to see that the cops have the term "metropolitan police department" written on their badge rather than "Toronto Police Department". Finally, I'm also embarrassed to see that the uniforms and the cars are not the real ones used by the Toronto Police Department.

Sorry. The release date on August 5 is actually the listing that was given to me at the time I published this. The film "The Whistleblower" will be released in select Canadian theatres tomorrow.

I'm starting now with the British version and I've only seen the pilot. It's enjoyable so far. As soon as I'm done with the British version, I'll shift my attention to the other Being Human.

I've once come across a press release from the Tribecca Film Festival revealing that The High Cost of Living will get distributed in the USA. However, I don't know when the film will come out on DVD.

Even though I loathe the Maple Leafs, I sometimes wish I lived in Toronto to see many Canadian films before many people at the TIFF. Anyway, even though I found This Beautiful City, Gass-Donelly's previous film, slightly slow in terms of pace, I believe that he's definitely an emerging director in this country.

Thanks for the comment, John. I already know that, because of all the films I mentioned, I've only seen The Sweet Hereafter and Being Julia. As I clearly wrote it, whether these films are in English or not, they all have one thing in common: they had the opportunity to be Canada's official entry to the Oscar. This goes without saying that if Canada's official entry happens to be English, it will have the chance to nominated in all categories of the Oscars.

Judging from what Gordon Pinsent read, I bet that Justin Bieber has pretty much nothing to talk about in his memoirs. Besides, I laughed so much the first time I saw this video. This is because the sketch ridicules so well Bieber's obvious lack of talent in writing.

I also love the way how Park Chan-wook uses few words to describe the evolution of the priest. Besides, Park managed to use the one-dimensional depiction of the girl to his advantage in order to show us how she becomes more and more fascinated by violence. All in all, the film is such a work of art.

I personally know that the show is Canadian. However, the show often tries to hide its Canadian roots and it shows it a little bit. First of all, even though the show was shot in Toronto, the police uniforms worn by the characters don't look like the real uniforms worn by police constables of Toronto (yes, I've been to Toronto). Secondly, the name of Toronto is never mentioned neither by the characters nor by any signs. I mean, even the first season of Flashpoint - which was aired on CBS - had the decency to give us a few shots of the CN Tower despite never naming Toronto!

No there won't be a fourth season for Durham County. Furthermore, on the top of that, HBO Canada announced in a press release that it will be the final season of this show. However, the creators of the show said that they're interested to make a feature film with the characters of the show.
