I love me some dating sims and if I weren't already engrossed in my "long-term" game-making project I might consider participating in this! :)

Re: The Horrifying World of Alpaca Niisan

Oh God. A Couple of Charts, Actually.

Fair enough.

These card battling games are getting very popular at the moment -- they've been big in Japan for a while but GREE and Mobage are keen to bring them to the West. Their quality seems to vary a great deal. GREE's Zombie Jombie was very similar to Rage of Bahamut, though slightly better presented, so I didn't think much of that either, personally. Meanwhile, Gamevil's Duel of Fate provides a much more interactive experience more akin to a traditional tabletop card game -- see also: Shadow Era and Kard Combat, two slightly older titles. This latter three just seem like more satisfying experiences to me; better "games" overall.I think that's my issue with RoB and similar games -- it just doesn't feel like you're DOING anything to me. Questing consists of mashing the "quest" button. Participating in events consists of mashing the "quest" button. Battling is completely hands-off with seemingly very little strategy beyond putting down the strongest hand you can. Meanwhile in, say, Duel of Fate, you have to survey what your opponent is doing, predict the choices they're going to make and respond accordingly. Much more interactive and, for me, fun.

Re: Rage of Bahamut Tops the Charts. That's fair enough -- my comment was more general about this sort of thing rather than specifically directed at you. :)

What is it you specifically like about it? I'm trying desperately to understand the appeal of this type of game -- they must regularly top the Top Grossing charts and convince people to pay out SOMEHOW, but I just don't see it. Maybe I'm just getting old and grouchy.

Re: Rage of Bahamut Tops the Charts. I found it immensely tedious and am sick of seeing this type of game gumming up the App Store and Google Play charts. Fair play to anyone who enjoys it, but I feel we shouldn't just praise these games because they end up being popular.

When are we going to see people embracing innovation rather than same-old, same-old predictable stuff like this?

My two bits.

Re: Warm Fuzzy Blogging

YOU'RE NOT SORRY AT ALL *sob*

I can get behind all those nominations though. :)

Re: 8.25km

Ahh. Well said. Some men—particularly the older generation, it has to be said—seem to take great joy in their nakedness and ensure it lasts as long as possible, carefully spreading out all their belongings as you describe, VERY SLOWLY. And naked.

Urgh. No. I really don't need that in my life.

Re: RPGs 2

Have you tried a JRPG? Currently I'm struggling on a 4-year old iMac (with Boot Camp) which means I can play cheap, awesome indie stuff but recent releases (cheaper than they are in the shops) have to be bought on consoles.

The only stuff worth buying immediately on release is stuff where the multiplayer is likely to only be active for a little while.

Re: Daily Blog # 0362 – Tuesday 28th December 2010

Give yourself some credit, chum. Whether or not you stuck to the "rules" is irrelevant. You kept going, even to the tune of "catching up" if you got "behind".

You've written a hell of a lot over the past year. And the vast majority of it has been highly entertaining.

So no, you're not a naughty boy. And yes, you should still be pleased with yourself. I watched their dev session today, too, and the full game certainly has potential to be good fun. They reminded everyone that the demo there was pre-alpha, so graphics and load times are going to be significantly better when it's done.

Re: Daily Blog # 0275 – Saturday 2nd October 2010

This is just awful. Nice.

I get like this, too. I get a curious light-headed feeling, like I'm not quite attached to the rest of the world. While I was at university, we took shows up on two separate occasions, so I have been one of those flyer people. It's surprisingly fun, though we tended to keep to the Royal Mile and not bother people in the Box Office.

I'd love to go back someday, with or without a show to take.

Re: http://angryjedi.tumblr.com/post/782047384

I haven't played for quite some time, and didn't get that far when I did play before. I can't wait. Easily one of my favourite Dreamcast games of all time.

What's your take on the new soundtrack? I've never felt the need to pick up any of the "specialist" editions (though I did have Beatles: Rock Band for a while) - vanilla is just fine for me, particularly with the sheer volume of DLC there is now.

I'm looking forward to the new one. As a pianist, I'm intrigued to see how good the keyboard gameplay will be. Hopefully better than it was in the original BeatMania. :)
