So now the tactic is to say the fort are hurting "the children"! With a quote like the one above I expect that you are doing everything you can to help raise funds for school athletics and such.

So Carole, when is your next bake sale? Holding any 50/50 raffles? What have you done to help this cause besides pay your property tax?

Long Beach eh? You know there used to be a trolley line to get visitors to Long Beach - and IIRC there was a music pavilion, entertainment and hotels. Maybe you and your neighbors would like to bring something like that back to your area to save school sports? After all, there is a precedent.

The fort has always been a mix of residential/business (the pavilion hotel was not in the fort) and your description of traffic shows me that you probably have never gone down the fort on a busy day. Beach traffic? Try trailer trucks making 5 point turns on a street designed for horse carts.

Two of the three are not encroaching upon an historic neighborhood that still reflects much of the reason people come to the city in the first place. Mac's project is like a dagger in the heart of what makes Gloucester unique and original.

It is not lost on the fort that this is divide and conquer - a way to corral Commercial St./Beach Ct. into the 'mainstream'. They can't take the whole area at once so it will be taken a piece at a time until the houses on the hill itself will be all that's left. By then they won't have the clout to keep on fighting.

Ask yourself why tourist still flock to the Crow's Nest - they are not there for the Grey Goose appletini's. They go in search of something real and when it comes to the fort, that is as real as Gloucester gets.

Mac's project is supposed to save the city? I thought it was Gloucester Crossing? Oh, wait I mean I4-C2. And when Mac destroys the character of the city's last remaining 'real' working neighborhood - where will you look then?

They always say rats are the first to leave a sinking ship....so what are you all waiting for?

Where is the violent crime down the fort? Rusty boats? Was Gruppe painting condos back then? and talk about organic growth - Neptune's harvest is ORGANIC fertilizer!

Stop catastrophizing, you make it sound like the city is going to crash into the sea if Mac doesn't get his way.

If you really think this one development is Gloucester's only saving grace then maybe YOU should change your name to "out to lunch gal"

How many of you property owners would not howl with rage if someone tried to do what Mac is trying in your own neighborhood? Easy to tell others what the city needs when it does not cast a shadow on your property.

Neptune's Harvest has grown steadily since its inception. Both housing, including condos and tourism have been hit hard by our economic situation.

When is a drug bust NOT in a school zone? That is a cop tactic to tack on additional charges. "tripping out"? On pot? Sounds like you got your facts straight. Meanwhile a few yards away you can get trashed on scorpion bowls, hop in your car and swerve all the way home to smack your wife around.

Someone remind me how many tobacco/alcohol deaths this year? Yet they are legal.

Also, how much did this 'sting' cost the taxpayers? The guys on that task force all make over 6 figures...

How much of a fight would Mac put up if someone wanted to develop dolliver's neck?

How does Mac know how much he outbid Ocean Crest? I thought the bids were confidential.

Why was Mac going door to door on Beach Ct. about 10yrs ago to try and stop condos going up at the Tavern? Why was he telling the people there to fight the condos since it would raise property taxes?

Who on this forum has ever had business dealings with Mac? Who here has ever worked for Mac?

Do they really think this will save Bluefin tuna? Who buys most of it? Japan, a nation that still hunts whales - do you think a ban will stop the Toro trade or just move it underground.

All this will lead to is poaching, which will drive up black market prices for a forbidden fish. How much did a bottle of Johnny Walker go for in 1929? How much bathtub booze was sold AS Johnny Walker to unsuspecting buyers?

Ask a tiger or a white rhino what endangered species status means...it just means their parts get more expensive and the enviro-yuppies can sleep with a clear concience.

Were you not complaining months ago Ron, about how the new places like MarketBasket are not 'real' jobs for this town? How they don't pay anything and they will bus out of towners in? Now you think loosing a venerable establishment like connors/eaton to a bigger chain is a good thing?

Those of us who truly care about the fiesta and what it stands for would hold it with or without city money. But that is not our decision - take away the bars, the rides and games, even the altar, and we would still have a fiesta. People like you Ron never see the real fiesta - it's in our homes and backyards and you're probably not invited.
