Re: Welcome to The Contrarian’s Guide

Welcome back Señor Anderson. However, my question went in another direction. Sorry about not being clear enough.

The reason for the 1% rule is pretty clear. My question really is: How do you know which pages fulfill the 1% rule and which don't. I haven't seen a number that says that. Do you estimate it, calculate it or just look somewhere for that information?

Regards from Mexico City.

Re: How do you know which Keywords to Monitor and how to Exploit Graph Search to your Advantage?

Jason: Excellent post. Not many people blog about this topics, which I also deal with frequently. One question though:

You mention the need to filter by the 1% of your fans, but I haven't seen anything that tells you what number of your fans like a given page. Am I missing something? Do you guesstimate ;) that number or how are you determining it?

Other than that, everything is crystal clear. I will start sharing your posts with my social media marketing group here in Mexico City. They will find them very valuable also ;)

Regards from this side of the Pacific Ocean.

Re: Google brings ‘OK Google’ hotword voice search to the desktop with new Chrome extension

I have the latest Chrome version for Linux and when installing he extension I get a "Manifest file is invalid." error. Some of them do not speak spanish, even. But check this out: There is a Linux version in nahuatl: OmeteOS GNU/Linux and Firefox has been translated in 24 dialects and variants http://www.mozilla-mexico.o...

And the Mozilla Mexico logo absolutely rocks :)

¡Saludos to the other side of the world!

Re: Indian Housewives and Their Maids

Actually it DOES bear a strong resemblance to the housewife/maids dynamics here in Mexico. Setting aside the fact that arranged marriages are not that common here, what you describe is pretty close to what I've seen in 40+ years here. It is a common joke that the most important member of many mexican households is the maid. Personally I call them the "Queens of Home" :)

But what you describe is also very common here: girls that find an employer when young, and if they're lucky, they will remain there for years, even decades and become as another member of the family. The old, wise maid who has been with the family for years and has seen the children grow is a cliche in mexican movies and soap operas, but it is (or was) also a common fixture in many households.

I have a beautiful anecdote that my mother shared with us about a young maid of indian descent that we had when my sister and I were very little. One day she found her softly singing a lullaby while we were sleeping in our beds. She was singing in otomi, a dialect spoken by many indians in central Mexico. She says it was one of the most beautiful images she has ever seen.

Great post, amigo ;)

Regards from Mexico City.

Re: Social Media Got Boring

The most interesting part of your post is the timeline. I've always said Social Media in Latin America, Mexico specifically, were about 2 years behind. And from what you say, it seems we are painfully still in 2009 moving into 2010. There is still so much to do here the element of excitement remains although it is contrasted by a LOT of frustration about missed oportunities.

On the other hand, your great posts will be sorely missed, They are one of my best sources of inspiration and thought.

I'll keep in touch, however.

¡Suerte!

Re: dirty.little.things

Re: http://tac.is/post/24533680375

iGoogle was my daily start page for a long while and I loved it, but somehow it was displaced and the benefits of having all important stuff in a single place diminished. Currently I start with 2 tabs: Twitter in Seesmic and Google Reader, so I guess my habits changed and iGoogle lost importance. I seem to remember it had some technical problems, somehow (too slow, crashed) in early Chrome.

Re: Testing A New Blogging Platform … Wanna Join Me?

If there are invites available yet, I'm in: angel.buendia@ornitorrincoenlinea.com

Re: Posterous: You Coulda Been a Contender. If it goes under, it will be a terrible blow. Even my mom has a Posterous blog and she loves it, so does my wife. I cannot think of an easier blog platform for non-techies.

Hoping against hope that Posterous will somehow survive even in a zombified state (ala Friendfeed) but these talent acquisitions usually spell death for the bought platform/application. Only Google does a worse job than Twitter in handling bought properties, I think.

I wish I could be more glad for the Posterous team, but as a user I cannot. Hope this at least makes Twitter better somehow, but even if it does we will have paid a terrible price.

I need a drink :(

Re: http://laotraisla.tumblr.com/post/17997282141

Quite a few bloggers, lawyers and organizations here are putting a lot of attention to this, just as it was done for the ACTA Senate hearings last year. Although it is only an initiative it has drawn a very heated response from a lot of people.
