Git is a DVCS, the D stands for Distributed.
Not all code is on Github, or belongs on Github, and Github is not the all of code.
The people on Github would probably be the first to revolt, if the people I've met from Github are any example.

But at the end of the day, they're a hosting platform for a source control system, there are many out there and you can always take your code off - in fact, mostly you do take your code off and keep local "clones". It's not some "walled garden". Becoming a walled garden is antithetical to what the idea of distributed source, and open source is.

Not to say that being all of code wouldn't be great for Github's "business model" :)

Re: Why GitHub’s pricing model stinks (for us)

https://bitbucket.org/tobin...

Re: Node.js, Require and Exports

Brilliant, I was looking for how to chain my separate values/classes out of the shared js/node environment and there it is. If the guys who helped make this re-wrote their own anti-xss library then people would ask why they didn't use something established and trusted. If they used a different anti-xss library then they'd be asked why didn't they didn't use "y anti-xss library" instead of "x anti-xss library".

The other option is to do things like wrappers around and choices. Unfortunately, when it comes down to it, it's not economical use of your time when trying to write a general usage library to try and solve everyone's problems directly. Especially in this case it was about providing a base that others could extend from.

The simplest answer I can give you is if you have something else then when you add our libraries maybe you'll need to depend on both, or maybe you'll want to customise what the guys have done to use your choice.

Catering for everyone's personal choice is something that not a lot of smaller projects have the resources to do, and I understand where you're coming from because it annoys me when a project makes a dependency choice for you when you'd make a different one - but it was that or provide incomplete features.

I hope you can understand and appreciate that - and I am sure if you wanted to extend or provide a wrapper around a few anti-xss libraries and choices then the guys would really appreciate a contribution to the project.

All the best, and if we can help please feel free to let us know!

Re: LETTER: Neither free nor equal in Albury

I honestly wonder why this is even still an issue - my god, does it really take this long to just accept that people are gay and that they should be treated as people?

I know people that make arguments like "once gays have marriage then what's to stop people marrying animals?" - I mean, seriously, if straight marriages don't lead to that then why on earth would gay marriages? The arguments I hear against it are the worst amounts of stupid nonsense I've ever heard and I worry that people can be so stupid to actually make or repeat them.

How many years more is it going to take for us to get past something that shouldn't even be an issue to begin with?

Re: Border support for gay equality

It frustrates me that the whole debate comes down to God and Christianity vs Gay Marriage, the "It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" remarks that I hear on talkback radio - for starters, people have been pairing off well before Christian marriage ceremonies, I believe that Jesus parents were married and chances are they were married before Christianity was around - Muslims, Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Athiests are all allowed to be married and they also did not get married in your church.

Criminals, rapists, murderers are probably allowed to get married and they broke more commandments and sinned more than you ever have, and if you ever coveted your neighbour, or committed Adultry then you've broken it too - but we allow people who have affairs outside marriage to remarry.

Marriage means more than the context of the Christian faith, and just because Gay people would be allowed to marry doesn't mean your church would be forced to marry them, or your minister - people still have rights to refuse that. It would just mean that they're allowed to marry, same as many other people who aren't Christian, same as Mary and Joseph were betrothed to be married before Jesus was born.

It's appalling that we can't get over this, and that it comes down to some people holding their religious beliefs over others - I'm pretty sure we would go to war if another group of religious people wanted to persecute and impose their religious beliefs on us.

Re: Why GitHub’s pricing model stinks (for us)

Bb also has issues, pages, wiki and probably etc - it also can be a git repo on Bb (they support Git and Bb), but in the end Github is just a nicer experience.

Re: A $199 Surface? He managed to get temporary rights to do the tv show, and produced what he wanted as Buffy - the rights then reverted back to the original holders for the movies, and they want to produce a movie on the cheap.

They also get none of the rights for the characters then built from the tv show. Which over six seasons of having "The Scooby Gang" on tv, and building rich characters, even if you're rebooting, seems to be a sad case - it'd be like rebooting Scooby Doo and only having Scooby and redoing new characters for him to hang out with.

I agree with the reasons Joss isn't involved, and it certainly seems they're looking for something cheap and nasty with a name to draw people in.

Joss was incredibly self-deprecating in his comments, and sad, but then you would be if a story you're still telling in comic forms and other places is being restarted without your involvement.

"Whedon takes a few jabs at the idea of the remake, as he is apparently a very original screenwriter. He makes note that his Avengers idea is his own (ignoring the fact that it is a comic book adaptation and thus not all that original) and doesn’t mention that he also worked on the Captain America film, another adaptation, or a pretty poor sequel in the Alien franchise"

Whedon made that comment as a "hey, I'm redoing stories I loved from my childhood, who am I to judge if someone else wants to do the same?" - it was a line that was to show the absurdity of him complaining about someone else doing the same thing as what he is doing, and it shows little insight into someone who you are looking for reasons to attack from your comments.

And there is a huge difference between being brought on to develop further onto a franchise than to reboot it without the involvement, and without the blessing of the creator.

His joke about rebooting Batman is to indicate that he believes it is too soon to go rebooting such a new franchise - and it only pains the fans to do so cheaply and without wanting to do the best by the franchise.

"At least without Joss Whedon involved, it’s a pretty safe bet that no character will be randomly and unceremoniously killed off for no reason other than fuck you. Wash for life, yo."

Yes, because you'd hate a story to have lasting emotional value for you.

Wash's death was major for the fans, a shocking and sudden move that clearly affected everyone from then on in the story, and gave the movie much more meaning. I applaud the balls it takes for telling a story, and having consequences, rather than plodding along keeping everyone somewhat happy.

Like I said, I don't want to attack you, or call you names, I just find this shoddy, biased reporting - but it's your site and you aren't hiding your bias.

The fact you don't get the humor, can't tell when someone is exaggerating to show the absurdity of being upset at a situation, and then calling them out for bitching when asked about something they created and cared for, for decades of their lives... Well, yeah you're a bit of hack. There I called you a name. Happy?

Re: Hayden Panettiere Takes a Gritty Turn In Bret Easton Ellis-Scripted ‘Downers Grove’

The brother is addicted to female heroes?
