Joe, please ask yourself why you felt compelled to make this comment. No one is threatening you with this blog post. The title of the post is "Assumptions" and Greg is lamenting his. Why does that sicken you? Apparently he believes, as I do, that making assumptions that confirm societal bias against women is not in our collective best interests. He isn't suggesting that "everything a person says must reassure women that they're equal to men." It seems to me that he's suggesting his assumption that the guy was obviously in tech when it could just as easily been the woman was erroneous and he felt bad about that.

I'm all for breaking down the taboo that prevents workers from discussing salary among themselves at their own discretion. However, I think making salaries public is terrible idea. Could you genuinely work with that ass-hat who plays his White Snake music too loud three cubicles down if you knew he made 10K more than you and totally doesn't deserve it? People often feel like they're underpaid and everyone else is overpaid. This is the same phenomenon where most people think they're smarter than their boss. Perspective makes all the difference. I think public access would sow a TON of dissent among workers and nothing would ever get done. If any info were to be made public, it should salary bands for job titles within your organization. This tells you how much room you have to negotiate and sets expectations for starting salary.

The reason some marketing folks such as myself might want access to this information is to compare it to present activity for trending analysis. Sure Twitter is for immediacy, and I can see how my brand might be blowing up right now, but how does that compare to last year/last week/yesterday? $1K seems pretty cheap for that kind of insight.

Tailing and tracking with cameras/satellites requires line of site and the vehicle being in a public place. GPS works whether the car is in public or on private property. Tracking anyone without a warrant when they aren't in public is unconstitutional.

Fast isn't everything. Usability is more important than speed when the speeds are relatively similar. The one area where I think there's a clear failure for iPhone is the URL command, but other than that, I think the bigger failure is Google expecting me to talk like a computer.
