Selvedge usually refers to stiff "raw" denim that hasn't been washed/sanded/faded before you buy it. Most denim that you buy has been treated in some way, so it's not considered "raw" denim.

More specifically though, selvedge refers to the type of "self-edge" that is made by the loom that weaves the denim:

"The word "selvedge" comes from the phrase "self-edge", the natural edge of a roll of fabric. As applied to denim, it means that which is made on old-style shuttle looms. These looms weave fabric with one continuous cross thread (the weft) that is passed back and forth all the way down the length of the bolt. As the weft loops back into the edge of the denim it creates this “self-edge” or selvedge. Selvedge is desirable because the edge cannot fray like denim made on a projectile loom that has separate wefts which leave an open edge that must be stitched. This advantage is only realized on one edge of the fabric, however, as the fabric has to be cut to shape and anywhere it is cut the self edge is lost." (via http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

I don't think they're longwings, though. It's hard to tell, but if you pause it right at 44 secs, you get a good look at the shoes and it doesn't look like there is any brogueing on the shoes (or the quality of the video is just crappy).

Personally, I doubt it. I don't usually vibe enough with anyone's complete collection, so if I did participate, I wouldn't fork over any money.

What I would prefer to see is a more distributed version of this, where I could sign up for a pair of pants from Designer A, and a Coat from Designer B, and 2 shirts from Designer C, etc. and then those preferences were communicated back to the designers.

I don't think there is an "official" T&A position, primarily because we fiercely disagree. The official A position is almost never (although there is a picture of me in white linen pants lurking out there...). How to pull it off? T can answer that for you.

They skew more towards the "classic" fit. I wear at 42 suit jacket and they fit well, but if you're more slender than that, I'd pass on them.

Thanks for the kind words.

In terms of colors/patterns, it depends on the shoes a bit. In the summer, I'm usually wearing white, brown, tan shoes, so I'd stick with blue, brown, or khaki belts (as far as staples go). In terms of patterns, Tom and I are big fans of solid and striped, steer clear of the critters and sailboats (unless you actually own one, then do whatever the hell you want).

Totally agree. For instance, don't wear your boat shoes with a white backwards hat that says "Duke" on the front. That screams douche.
