But what the original article was pointing out is that a higher density of educated people is better (because density makes it easier for these people to interact with each other, thus generating more value/innovation/wealth/interestingness). So if you are aiming for the highest-interestingness area, then absolute density is what you want, not relative.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Plus, I haven't looked at the numbers, but I would have thought NYC is way more densely populated than the Bay Area, which is mostly suburban.
