If you're close to the warehouse it's pretty bad. A friend of mine works in the area and all warehouses in the area have to deal with the smell all day, though it was lessened after the partial shutdown. It's very likely people in the area complain to the city all the time. Not everyone is a huge fan of sriracha and wants to be exposed to the odor all the time.

Re: Two Months with the Pebble Smartwatch

I must be fairly lucky, as I've had my Pebble for quite some time now and haven't scratched it. I've worn it while scrambling around rocks in Joshua Tree, working on my car, etc... but I am in general a very careful person, have never broken a device or such before. I'll probably scratch it eventually...

Re: Obamacare Incentives Push Hospitals to Keep Medicare Patients Healthy

You're thinking about it wrong. It's all just law. Whether it's one program or two programs doesn't matter, why would it, a "program" is just letters on a page, the impact and effect is the same. Is that one good reason enough for you? Is it two separate pages, or page one and two of the current health care law?

Re: The Risks and Rewards of Genetically Modified Organisms

Also worth noting I think nothing can stop GMO projects from not offering plants as rewards and then, once funding is complete, say "Everyone who donated more than $40 gets a plant!" and it turns into an unspoken thing to work your way around Kickstarter's "guidelines".

Re: The Risks and Rewards of Genetically Modified Organisms

I feel a bit like I don't understand what Kickstarter is trying to do, precisely, by disallowing GMO plants to be sent as a reward. It reads to me like a strictly symbolic gesture to appease the anti-GMO crowd on Kickstarter. If you can still fund GMO, they're not doing anything to actually stop it. Is Kickstarter's message "GMO is bad, but only kind of", and what is the value of that message?

Your article smartly points out probably one of the only convincing anti-GMO arguments, but Kickstarter didn't go fully anti-GMO, so is it actually relevant to, or even an inspiration for, what they're doing? I'm not certain of any aspects Virginia Postrel's anger, but I'd wager that this is part of it. Is Kickstarter actually anti-GMO, or are they just playing the PR game, and if they are just playing the PR game, isn't that abhorrent?

Re: The Best Little Checkpoint in Texas

Yeah, this made me do a double-take. He's not walking down the street with a scary beard and a red X through his face. He looks just like any other kid."

Cool, so Rolling Stone didn't intend to glamorize the kid. But after the Zimmerman trial they decided that instead the right thing to do is to make us paranoid of "any other kid" and suspect that any (probably non-white) child might actually be a terrorist we should be scared of. Remember, people, they strike without warning, at any time! The only good defense against children is a good offense. I'm glad that Rolling Stone is doing the important work the rest of the media establishment is too inept to do: making us afraid. And not just of terrorists, but of secret children terrorists!

Re: New 'Weeds' Season 8 Teaser Tracks Nancy's Wicked Ways (Video)

At the end of the last season "the Internet" did a bunch of comparisons and I would say there is no doubt that that is who it is. This is why the iPod was such a success. As a music lover it was clear to me (after using some competitor products) that my distrust of Apple was outweighed by the fact that iTunes/iPod were clearly designed by people who absolutely loved music. While other devices were like, "here's a thing that you can listen to music, like a digital walkman we guess", the iPod said, "Here's a thing that you can use to enjoy music like you haven't before."

The Kindle is much the same way. Unlike the iPad/iBooks which continues to feel like "here's a thing you can use to read books, we guess, we even graphically simulate the margins of books, how clever huh?" the Kindle will always be "Here's something you can use to really enjoy books."

Re: New 'Weeds' Season 8 Teaser Tracks Nancy's Wicked Ways (Video)

People, it's the son of the DEA agent husband she had.

Re: Google Gets Transparent With Glass, Its Augmented Reality Project

Yay pessimism! What was inaccurate was her mistaken identification of the girl as a booth babe. She wasn't, she was just a PR person, but that doesn't make the slumping in the chair or her tight t-shirt any less factual. You can see those things with your own eyes. The woman's name, something Blue didn't bother getting (at all) and that Shawn didn't bother getting (right) either, is the point of contention at this point now, I think.

Re: Violet, Violet, Violet….

Ignoring that when he called out Violet originally he had no idea what he was talking about either. I'm not arguing that Violet is flawless. I'm arguing that it's strange Shawn takes such a pompous tone when he is guilty of exactly the same thing: not bothering to know who a person is before reporting on them one way or the other. Shawn admits to sourcing info from twitter friends and repeating it without verifying it. That's what I mean by "looking gay". It's one thing to draw a superhero fighting in heels. It's another to manipulate the posture of a male superhero to accentuate effeminate characteristics.

I would say a majority of the 'art' pieces above make Batman look unnecessarily effeminate while wearing heels, and I find it hard to imagine there is any reason for this aside from 'going for laughs', which would then be 'going for laughs at an effeminate cross-dressing Batman'.

Re: What Batman Would Look Like Fighting In Stilettos

But men don't commonly wear heels so why would Batman fight in heels? Not really his style, while Catwoman's character has always had style in mind, so her heels make more sense. I'm still not seeing how this comparison has anything to do with that. Again, this is just an attempt to be clever, but in actuality it is just another form of gender stereotyping.

Men don't wear heels so lets make images of men in heels to...?
