We have never gotten the basic flu shot. I do feel this vaccine came out too quickly and I just don't trust it.
I am not anti-vaccine, my daughters have been vaccinated. Except for the chicken pox, thankfully they both got the chicken pox at 3 and 1 right before the vaccine became mandatory in our school system years ago.

~Amber

Re: The Very Important Phone Call

My daughters 11 and 13 still are drawn to me if I am on the phone. They could be in their room for an hour quiet as mice and as soon as they realize I am on the phone they come and sit by me and give me looks like they really need to talk to me. Or simply try and talk to me.

When they were younger they would definitely try and act up while I was on the phone. I think it is second nature to kids. Everyone that I know with children go through some type of "phone thing" with their kids.

~Amber

Re: Bad Doctor: Stories That Will Make You Laugh- and Cry

Wow! Trust me, there are! As for ER's.....had I listened to a "Bad Dr" in the Er in 1993 I would have went home, went to sleep and bled to death internally. Some Drs, I did say some, I don't mean all, think that they always know right. This particular Dr was supposed to be excellent, he came down to our little bitty neck of the woods every once in a while from St. Louis and helped out.

When I had a bad car accident and showed no outward signs of injury he didn't even want to listen to me. My only problem was severe abdominal pain and I couldn't stand without passing out. He kept me in the Er for 8 hours continually telling me I should go home that there was nothing wrong with me. I was almost 19, very scared and in severe pain. After I begged and pleaded (and my mom pleaded) he finally put me in an observation room at 3am. At 6am they brought in another Dr who ran some tests and had me in emergency surgery very quickly.

I had laid in the hospital from 7pm until 6am bleeding internally because my bowels had been torn badly. They were so bad the Dr told my mom he may have to do a Colostomy. I had lost a lot of blood and lost 16 inches of intestines. 13 of the Large and 3 of the Small. Thankfully no Colostomy and Thankfully I didn't listen to that Dr.

Lindsey I know I emailed you briefly about this Bad Dr. account along with another one but I decided this one deserved a little more detail. :)

Re: Bad Doctor

Thankfully we have a wonderful Dr know but in the past I have had a couple doozies. I sent an email since my bad dr experience was kinda lengthy.

Re: Death by Kindergarten

I'll just start off by saying I am not a morning person as much as I try to be. :)

My girls are in 6th and 8th grade. When they were younger I refused to let them ride the bus, I insisted I drop them off and pick them up. I volunteered as much as I could. Also during this time I was babysitting a niece and nephew who were babies or toddler at the time. I was out of my mind exhausted and on Saturdays I would be so tired that I would most likely sleep until noon. Hubby was wonderful and let me but that sucked to be sleeping half the day when everyone was home.

When we moved here 3 1/2 years ago I decided the girls were riding the bus. They were plenty old enough. I also quit babysitting. I have never been one to hover over my girls homework. They are self sufficient in that area and have both made straight A's on the report cards from day one. If help is requested I will help but that is as far as it goes.

I will tell you something though....don't quit the reading it is too important. As for helping out in class. My 6th grader still remembers how I went to her Kindergarten class every Wednesday for half a day. :)

Amber

Re: Super Power

Why yes it is! ;)

Re: Super Power

I am the UnScrambler!! Need someone to complete that Circle-A-Word for you in record time? Search no more. My kids love to bring one of those pages to me and ask where is this word? I glance for just a moment before telling them, why it is right here.

When does my UnScrambling come in handy?
1. When my kids don't want to do Circle-A-Word puzzles
2. Playing the Unscramble the "Baby/Bridal" words at baby and bridal showers.

Over the years I have been to one too many baby and bridal showers and it never fails that one of the games is a list of 20 scrambled words relating to babies or brides.
Let's just say that my ability to look at a scrambled up word and immediately see the correct word is a little on the freakish side.

I have won said game at every shower that I have ever attended and let me tell you I brought home a nice array of pot holders and candles.

Here is how a typical game goes when I am playing. The hostess tells everyone to start unscrambling. Moments go by, I am the first to raise my hand and say "Done", other guests start spouting off things like "No way, I am still on number 5", "No way, I think you need to check her paper!"

~Amber a.k.a. Sports, field trips and school extra curricular activities. The only time we get fliers for businesses in town for instance would be when Applebees has a "school" night and if you give your waitress the flier then 20% of your order goes to the school.

Now my oldest daughter is in Lab Choir so she does get fliers for music contests and musical auditions in the surrounding areas.

Re: A Post Guaranteed to Make Me EVEN MORE POPULAR at My Daughter's School

They don't do door to door anymore here in Podunk. Both of my girls are still in Girl Scouts, actually I think it's Juniors now but anyhow. Since they started way back in Kindergarten it's the parents who sell the cookies not the kids.

Sadly I am not a very good sales person. If dad doesn't sell them then they are out of luck!

Re: A Public Service Announcement

My oldest daughter (13) loved that blasted purple dinosaur!! You had to park and wait with all the other K parents at a designated spot outside the school. Eventually after most of the kids in the school were gone, the K teachers would bring them out. Then you had to sit there and wait as they went down their roster and handed each child over to the proper adult. It sucked!

When my girls got older I tried the drive thru thing and even though we have a super small school most people here in Podunk cannot figure it out. I was stressed every day. Now they ride the bus home. Much better for my sanity! :)

Re: The One Who Got Left Behind

Half day of kindergarten would have been sweet. I could just cry thinking about his sorrow.
The year my oldest went to kindergarten my youngest went to preschool so she was a least busy for part of the day. Then when she came home she napped and it was time to get sissy from school. I am sure that helped a lot.

Re: It Is Done

Aww, I really feel for you!

Re: The Death Talk

I would definitely not call that a fail! She had been in the hospital for 2 months and was slipping away more every day. The girls knew she was very bad off. Also they were older 9 and 12.

When the time came we just explained to them that Nana was now in heaven and that she was no longer hooked up to all those machines. That she was finally better and we can be with her again some day.

~Amber

Re: Kraft Pulls Ads from Porn Star's Show

I just wanted to say that I love your blog as well as your banner.
