I wanted to read your book but was afraid I'd have to picture you having sex. Thank god! Now I am definitely going to buy a copy. And that Enrique post: brilliant.

Re: Tallying Up The Condé Nast Layoffs -- So Far - mediabistro.com: FishbowlNY

I am absolutely not gleeful nor am I resentful for what happened to me. This is a tragedy for our industry, and it's unfortunate that I have to write daily about more of my friends and colleagues losing their jobs. This post is an attempt to keep all the reports from the past few weeks in one place. Gleeful? Certainly not. Mournful is more like it.

Re: Confessions Of A Condé Nast Layoff Victim, And Some Tips To Help You Survive The Next 6 Months - mediabistro.com: FishbowlNY

Thanks for sharing your story! However, I think the difference between holding a session at the 92nd St. Y and online is a wider audience (people who would be willing to watch from home rather than go to an actual place) and maybe greater percentage of revenue? I would imagine it costs them almost nothing to produce an online lecture and there's no rental fees for the space, no cost for snacks, no materials like print-outs and copies.

Re: Disney Acquires Comic Book Giant Marvel For $4B - mediabistro.com: FishbowlNY

Sasha--

In the conference call, the execs from both companies said any agreements Marvel had with other studios/companies besides Disney would stay in place. I thought about that before I posted this but...FishbowlNY had nothing to do with the mis-labeling four years ago and its been up there like that for years. Plus, it wasn't really the fault of whoever mislabeled it, because Adam was wearing Jared's name tag. In his video and post, Adam seems to think it was funny, so did I. If its a pre-packaged bankruptcy plan that the lenders have already agreed on, the court may not weigh in on it at all.

Can any bankruptcy experts tell me if that's right? But I also think they are looking to make money wherever they can. And if you donate and become a "member" of the NYT, these are the kinds of "perks" you might get. Will they make a lot of money from it? Probably not. It might just be a stipend that goes to the writers for their troubles, like the Learning Annex. But the fact is, the paper is looking for other ways to monetize its brand, which is entrenched in its writers, columnists, etc.

I'm still struggling with whether I would pay to take part in one of these seminars. I'd love to sit down and have coffee with these writers (ala the scrapped WaPo salons) but I don't know if I would pay to be lectured online. Maybe I'm missing the point.

Re: "60 Minutes" Creator Don Hewitt Dies - mediabistro.com: FishbowlNY

There was no disrespect intended. It's hard to know what will make everyone happy. As a freelancer, I have an email address that's myname@mydomain.com, but if someone sends mail there I reply through gmail so I basically use that for everything. Does that make me lazy? Maybe. But I tend to prefer to think of it as efficient. If the practice loses me work, that's another story.

Re: Former Time Inc. Who do magazine editors see as their target audience today? They are certainly not make money from subscribers if they are getting $1 or less per issue from them, so it would make sense for them to attempt to attract more newsstand sales. But if they cut rate bases to lower costs, the number of newsstand issues goes down, and focusing on newsstand readers anyway could alienate subscribers and motivate them to drop their subscriptions. it's a tough spot to be in -- but it's not a new struggle. I think everyone is just trying to get readers any way they can and trying to just stay afloat.

Re: Menu: FisbowlNY's Amanda Ernst Talks NY Media News - mediabistro.com: FishbowlNY

re: lilypad

I have heard many people voice that opinion before and it's a good starting point for conversation.
