Hang on...isn't this exactly how interracial marriage became legal? A ban was still on the books in some states when the Supreme Court decided Loving v. Virginia. Doesn't the trajectory of gay marriage feel similar?

The Democrats lose because they have a longer memory than Republicans. When a candidate says something they don't like, they remember it. That's not true all of the time, but it's true for Dems more than Republicans.

Dems could definitely learns something from the Right on that front.

"But in the end, this is just a silly fluff piece." An interesting SIDE EFFECT is that Jackson is a nut and people are uncomfortable with him, so his dismay at Obama has actually had the reverse effect then it would have if it were someone else. I found that interesting. Sorry you don't.

That's ridiculous. It's completely about your perception. Do you think a Chinese woman who has bound her feet looks better than one who hasn't? In China, that's what's considered beautiful. High heels are just the new corset. No one should have to make themselves uncomfortable for other people. Your haircut might be a waste of time and a pain in the ass, but it's not going to cause you any pain. High heels cause back and foot problems, and they are extremely uncomfortable. No one's foot should be forced into that position for any period of time.

They did shoot at him. But the first time they tried, he pretended to be dead, only to continue his rampage. Guns don't solve everything (yes, yes...they did kill him eventually, but not before he hurt a crapload of people).

Wow. You let one article change who you are? Or, if that's too dramatic, it definitely led you to make assumptions about an entire group of people. I'm a Bitch subscriber, and I often don't agree with many of their articles. That doesn't mean I can't be a feminist. Why didn't you just write a letter to the editor to make your feelings known? The great thing about feminism is that you can have a different opinion, think for yourself, and still believe, at the core, that men and women should have the same opportunities in this world. If you don't believe that, then I guess you're not a feminist.

And by the way, feminism isn't about living in a "happy" world. It's about living in an equal world.

That's not to say that everyone has to identify themselves as a feminist (obviously), but I think it's sad that you let one person's "rant" change your identity.

I do agree on one point, though, our society is EXTREMELY screwed up.

Interesting point, but I don't know that I want a lot of these people protecting me. And I don't think that's why many of them want guns. I just think that the original amendment was, as you say, written in a different time in history (as they all were, of course), and I'm not sure the founding fathers had hunters and potentially dangerous people in mind when they wrote that amendment. It's just an interpretation. Since none of those original guys are alive, that's all we can do.

The amendment protects a civilian militia because we didn't have a regulated police force. Therefore, things are incredibly different now (historical context). The amendment was not written for every person who felt like having a gun, it was written for MILITIAS. Who were needed then.
