A ban was still on the books in some states when the Supreme Court decided Loving v. Virginia. Doesn't the trajectory of gay marriage feel similar?

Re: RNC: John McCain

The Democrats lose because they have a longer memory than Republicans. When a candidate says something they don't like, they remember it. That's not true all of the time, but it's true for Dems more than Republicans.

Dems could definitely learns something from the Right on that front.

Re: RNC: John McCain

Nice post. An interesting SIDE EFFECT is that Jackson is a nut and people are uncomfortable with him, so his dismay at Obama has actually had the reverse effect then it would have if it were someone else. I found that interesting. It's completely about your perception. Do you think a Chinese woman who has bound her feet looks better than one who hasn't? In China, that's what's considered beautiful. High heels are just the new corset. No one should have to make themselves uncomfortable for other people. Your haircut might be a waste of time and a pain in the ass, but it's not going to cause you any pain. High heels cause back and foot problems, and they are extremely uncomfortable. No one's foot should be forced into that position for any period of time.

Re: Biderman’s “Chart of Coercion” becomes Chinese-imported torture

Here you go (I'm adding it to the post as well): http://tpmmuckraker.talking...

Re: Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act

Google Fight -- I love it. You let one article change who you are? Or, if that's too dramatic, it definitely led you to make assumptions about an entire group of people. I'm a Bitch subscriber, and I often don't agree with many of their articles. That doesn't mean I can't be a feminist. Why didn't you just write a letter to the editor to make your feelings known? The great thing about feminism is that you can have a different opinion, think for yourself, and still believe, at the core, that men and women should have the same opportunities in this world. If you don't believe that, then I guess you're not a feminist.

And by the way, feminism isn't about living in a "happy" world. It's about living in an equal world.

That's not to say that everyone has to identify themselves as a feminist (obviously), but I think it's sad that you let one person's "rant" change your identity.

I do agree on one point, though, our society is EXTREMELY screwed up.

Re: Northwest Passage: global warming isn’t real, we just don’t like ice anymore

Hey man, I just assume scientists know what they're talking about: "The North Pole may be briefly ice-free by September as global warming melts away Arctic sea ice, according to scientists from the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado."

Re: Supreme Court: we can keep our guns under the 2nd Amendment

Good debate! And I don't think that's why many of them want guns. I just think that the original amendment was, as you say, written in a different time in history (as they all were, of course), and I'm not sure the founding fathers had hunters and potentially dangerous people in mind when they wrote that amendment. It's just an interpretation. Since none of those original guys are alive, that's all we can do.

Re: Supreme Court: we can keep our guns under the 2nd Amendment

The amendment protects a civilian militia because we didn't have a regulated police force. Therefore, things are incredibly different now (historical context). The amendment was not written for every person who felt like having a gun, it was written for MILITIAS. Who were needed then.

Re: Grail Movement cult brainwashes Czech mother into skinning her kids

I take no delight in calling anything a cult.
