Gave it a try and it looks like it works well (at least for the one file restore I tested with.) One small nitpick, it appears to not preserve the file timestamp after the restore. If I restore using the new client, the timestamp on the restored file is the time of the restore. If I do it with the old web ZIP method, it has the original file timestamp.

The issue with SMS isn't so much direct interception (it's encrypted over-the-air), but rather having your phone number taken over. It's fairly easily to have your phone number moved to a new SIM card just by calling the cell provider's customer service and providing details such as name, address, and SSN (especially since the recent Equifax breach and other prior similar breaches). If your cell phone ever suddenly stops working, it's a good idea to call your carrier immediately.

Any updates on when we'll be getting satellite/hybrid imagery back? (Last I saw was that they were "working on it" 3 months ago). It's really needed for editing and making sure things are in the right places.

If your Linux disc supports writing to NTFS partitions, then it should work. You may have to manually mount the partition. A Windows Recovery CD will also work; they are available for download if you do a Google search for them.

So does GiftRocket charge fees for this, or are they just earning the float on the funds in between purchase and redemption? Who pays the PayPal fees for the transactions?

It seems like giving cash would be a simpler option, since that's basically what you're doing anyway (except they now have to get their phone into GPS range of a building, assuming that's even possible, in major cities it's sometimes hard to get a position fix anywhere near where you actually are...)

Nice, thanks for the free offer. I'll stick with backing up my Gmail locally, though, I don't see the need to trust a company I don't know with all of my e-mail (yes, I obviously had to trust Google, but the more copies of the data that exist out there, the more likely it could be compromised). I'll use your service to back up public cloud data like Twitter, though.

Yeah, I noticed that it doesn't seem to be possible to completely eradicate the toolbar, but at least after doing the steps and closing the toolbar it doesn't pop back up automatically anymore.

That's good to hear...I was trying out Trapster in the background last night, forgot about it, and found a dead iPhone several hours later. Glad that Waze is approaching the issue intelligently. I applied for the beta, hopefully I'll get to try the new multitaskable Waze app soon...

I doubt if there's normal cell reception there, I assume it was entered by someone at base or something like that or entered in after the fact and then Foursquare confirmed it from their pictures/documentation/etc, Possibly a web-based check-in without GPS using a satellite device of some sort.

What is the radius set to? Does it vary for different types of venues? This can be an issue for places like stadiums or train stations, since there's only one dot on the map, but the venue itself can be quite large...
