I get what you're saying...as users we all have strategies to manage incoming disruptions and to separate the useful from the useless.

I was coming at your post from the other (an organization / publisher's) perspective. As more people "turn off the social noise" how do we as marketers adapt?

...and as you know.... we are ALWAYS adapting...

I'm not asking you to have the answer right now, just food for thought..... :)

Re: Muting My Noise – How I Made Social Media Relevant Again

I miss the good old days of Twitter too, but I agree with Jay. Authentic and transparent don't necessarily mean unscheduled.

Of course, you can do whatever you want to do to manage your own life and social inbox, but most organizations I consult to can't extemporaneously shoot from the hip with live tweets and posts 24/7.

You could go a step further and stop answering the phone and checking email as well and that will make your life a lot quieter, but it may also mean you are missing out on business opportunities. From a user perspective, that's your choice.

However, from a consulting / advisor perspective, what are you then recommending?

Re: How Does It Feel When HubSpot Calls You “Professional”?

Lance, great read. You are a pro indeed! I went full monty - in that I converted my website to the Hubspot COS right out of the gate. It's been a lot to take on. I'm working through my certifications and "traditional" marketing work - while I start to weave in the possibility of taking on Hubspot clients. The Hubspot team has been incredibly helpful, and I can't wait until I'm a "PRO" too.

Re: Listen Up: The Top 10 Small Business Marketing Podcasts of 2013

Thanks for compiling this list! I thought it was my responsibility to be informed...until I realized that the "news" was just sensationalism (ESP when I lived in SoCal) ...and the recession hit. I was a new business owner, and I needed to opt out of the negativity so I could attract the business I wanted. I have to say...I haven't missed it!

Re: Before I Die…

So very cool. I always tell people that running a business is like having a baby. Running a blog is too. The first couple of years are filled with sleepless nights. Soon you figure out the routines and it gets easier. Now your "baby" is a toddler - and that is definitely worth celebrating. Congrats!

Re: The Duct Tape Marketing iPhone App

Cool! I was teaching a seminar the other day, and an attendee wanted to be found for "documentation" -- I had to explain that one- & two-word search terms are not only almost impossible to optimize for, but probably wouldn't help drive sales because you'd be reaching WAY beyond your target market.

Re: Customer Service Is Marketing

I agree Chris. Service comes from the heart. Can you imagine how lame it would've been if corporate said, "Wow. Look at Johnny's success. Let's make all the baggers create thoughts of the day....and well...maybe we could just give them our thoughts of the day so they are consistent with our brand messaging." Would've been an epic fail. What made Johnny's service successful is that he was completely sincere.

Re: Be Different or Be Dead Author Roy Osing Interviewed

Did you see my blog post today? http://www.tornado-marketin... It was exactly about this need to differentiate in business. Specifically, it was about a movie theater that transformed my experience, that directly addressed the pains that kept me from going to the movies. Every business can and should differentiate to dominate.

Re: I hated movie theaters until last weekend.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the deep stadium seating. There's always someone a step ahead of you, who inspires you to keep moving forward. And there's someone a step behind you who makes you realize how much you already know. By reaching out, we strengthen ourselves and others. You have a lot to offer - and certainly have taught me a lot. You're always somebody in my book.

Re: New Theme – Best Ever!

Which WordPress theme is it?
.-= Adrianne Machina´s last blog ..Public Speaking as a Marketing Tool =-.
