Yea it would be really nice to see it styled up to fit in with the rest of the gorgeous and intuitive Tumblr UI.

To be fair to Tumblr that dialog is down to the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor and not their own UI design although they could have easily changed it to something better. I personally hate the dialog as it is far too easy to press Cancel and lose everything you've typed in. Bad UI from TinyMCE.

I couldn't agree more. It's a strange UI decision. I expect they thought it would be nice to show people what was coming on the next page but it actually turns out to be a bit useless.

A better implementation would be to abandon the ghost images and to use either AJAX pagination to make it quicker to reach that next page of results or to do what Apple does on its Store product listing pages where several "pages" of placeholders containing all of the products are loaded into the page but with only the fist "page" of placeholders loaded. The other placeholders are then be loaded via AJAX as the user scrolls down towards them.

Nice. I don't know why enum fields are not already in ActiveRecord. Datamapper already has this along with some other useful field types like Flag etc.
