Oh god, this piece.

I loved pop punk but pop punk didn't love me back. When I was 20, my boyfriend's CD player/alarm clock played "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad" every morning at 5:20, when he had to drag himself out of the weird rickety loft bed we'd built when I moved in with him to go work at the photo developing facility. It gave me an anxiety attack every morning (he was probably cheating on me, I was definitely falling apart mentally). I can still remember to this day when it felt like, lying there in the dark, wobbling as he climbed down the side of the bed, trying not to make sound so he wouldn't know I was crying myself awake again.

What is it about pop punk?

Re Dragon*Con: I used to live in Atlanta and I've attended several times — I highly recommend going, it's super fun! I believe rooms at the Westin are still available, though rather expensive. The other trick is to book a non-convention hotel within walking distance. (I am actually looking for possible roomies for this year, but I haven't booked a room yet.) You can also try the LJ comm, especially closer to con; space on floors or extra beds often get posted there.

And I'm planning to be at MoCCA and NYCC too! So perhaps we will run into each other at one of those, if not D*C.

I'm surprised more people aren't saying Scott Pilgrim. It was definitely the best movie I saw this year.

Xu Xu Fang is a good band, fairly new but you can find them on myspace. XTC is always good. X is amazing classic west coast punk. "Johnny Hit and Run Pauline" is my favorite song of theirs. And Xiu Xiu is good, if a little weird.

I bought "Bottled Stars" last night. I'm so glad I get to say my first real art purchase went to benefit an amazing charity.
