When you first have contact/touch with a new person seeing you for the first time and a more subtle call is good. As long as you hold their attention you can build on the relationship from there and once there's mutual trust you can get much bolder (and still be successful) with your calls to action.

Re: Credit where credit is due…

"The level of communication is based on the depth of relationships. The less the degrees of separation - the more the depth; and vice versa." This the part which got to me. It is common sense but so often ignored.

The more interaction you have with someone and the higher touch you have the more you can influence them and vice versa. They'll be far more likely to act on your recommendations and give you better info.

Re: Where are we heading now?

This is very interesting especially the part where Kevin Kelly talks about how the web is going to become "more thinking" and be able to better predict the searches we want to do based on past behavior. Of course, this is also a bit scary because of the increased monitoring required for this which means less privacy. But most stuff we do online is being tracked anyway so the convenience should be worth a small amount of further intrusion.

Re: Just To Recap A Few Important Points From The Book

Jon, you make a great point about Simon's book. It helps to get clarity because the info is explained in such a way to allow your mind to crystallize what the next step is and put it into action.

It's definitely for action takers and not people who think it'll work but collecting digital dust on their hard drive. The community aspect of being a customer and player in the group who's using Simon's tactics has been invaluable.

Re: Twitter Tips | How To Find Whatever You Need Without Using Twitter Tools, Fools or Automation Software

Rebecca,

Your story is a great validation of how twitter can be so helpful as a community and almost instantaneous. There are so many thousands of sites out there and more coming online every day. So the real key is to use maps and blueprints like Simon has provided here to narrow down the universe into just a few select power and authority sites to use and invest your energy into. Since I started doing this I have gotten much better results and a much more powerful connected network than I had doing the scattershot way before.

And Bob it is always good to remember that especially on the web having a website that does one thing really well at the top of that market is the way to be successful. It's easy to forget that and try to be everything to everyone but that just doesn't work.

Re: Social Media Landscape

Simon, your book gave an excellent overview of what social media is and the major important players that are worthy of our time and investment. And then you went more in depth into intermediate and advanced strategies and an overall blueprint on how to tie them all together for maximum linking and effectiveness. And seeing them successfully put into action with the Google friend connect YouTube videos just proves your tactics work and you practice what you preach in your book.

Re: Ranking number 1 on Youtube for a super competitive phrase

Simon, the domination of Google for their own term Google friend connect is quite impressive and a very massive validation of tactics as well as the power of the social traffic community. Obviously, if I don't want to reveal the specific tactics because those are part of the course but once you get the course you will see the tactics to get these rankings require the participation of the community. Without it the videos would have languished.

And Chicke makes a good point that your metaphor between Google and a Rubik's cube makes it very easy to understand just what an accomplishment we did here.

Re: Social Networks

It has been long known and practiced by cult leaders that having evangelists to bring new recruits into your events is the best way to go about things. They get a small group of leaders and filter the message down having them go out and bring in new people. We now have the capabilities to do this on the Internet using tools like Facebook and twitter.

I look forward to the continued development of the social traffic course and mastermind to develop new techniques as this social media space continues to change rapidly. Staying on the cutting edge will be key to successfully using this and being the market leaders going forward.

Chicke I have to agree with you. The way Simon has been using twitter to target local events is quite brilliant and proving to be extremely effective.

Re: I guess beating Google was too much. I was just talking to one of the SEO guys I know pretty well and he lives over in Florida. Now this is quite an amazing story because he was telling me up about how back in high school he was big into wrestling and had this other jock friend who was big into baseball.

Strangely the baseball guy had become a wrestling coach during his adult life. I was talking to my friend and he had said that out of the blue he got a message on Facebook from this old friend. And he was telling me the story of how his friend's 11-year-old daughter overheard her dad talking about my friend Joe and she did a search for him on Facebook. She found his profile and asked her dad if this was the Joe he was talking about and it was.

The Facebook platform is absolutely huge and the people using it very diverse. You'll never know when one of your old friends may contact you. And this doesn't even talk about the powers for business, marketing, and authority building purposes.

Re: The girl who silenced the world for 5 minutes

I know when I was younger I devoted zero time to environmental issues. I remember a conversation you and I had Simon where you showed me one of your facebook pages. The interesting thing was you suggested I do a Google search for one of your main keywords (I won't reveal the key word for privacy purposes).

You were ranking number one for this keyword and had told me all of the substantial work and SEO link building you had done to gain this number one position. Then you pointed out that in the number five or number six position was the Facebook page you had created to target this keyword. And the most interesting comment you made about this was that you had done no link building or any other rank increasing efforts to this page. You just set up a nice page once and the power of the Facebook domain allowed you to get that high ranking almost all on its own.

Re: Facebook Groups

I have had some good success using Facebook groups. Like anything on Facebook it takes a little bit of getting used to if it's something you've never done before. And I have been able to invite more than 100 of my friends into a group in a day as long as I use a different invitation message.

That is very interesting when you talk about the unlimited nature of replies. I was always careful to not send the same message to multiple people but it makes sense that if they initiated the contact and communication with you you can reply back to them with the same message as you sent to in a reply to someone else assuming it makes sense.

I don't know if I would want to join 200 groups because I wouldn't have the time to respond back to the 200 messages but it is a good strategy if you devote the time to use it. I imagine you can make some excellent contacts, partners and maybe even some sales.

Re: Networking On Facebook

maerichl, that is really the only successful way to go about building your friend network. Everyone on the Web is clamoring for attention and for you to listen to their message. So you have to differentiate yourself from these rank amateurs. The way to do that is to do something different which also catches peoples attention. Giving value to them first is definitely the way to do that and not asking for anything in return. I have found that when I incorporate this strategy people naturally come back to me and ask what I am doing or offer to help me as well.

Henry, it's very easy to do and the way I started out in Facebook myself. I went into some groups within my market and just started friending every body without really building any foundation. I did send them a personal message but there was little follow-up after that. You definitely want to have a strategy to incorporate into Facebook before spending any time which would be wasted without a good strategy.

Re: Why listen to me?

One of the biggest reasons I became a part of the social traffic company is because I believe in being a leader and the leadership we have in place. Simon has demonstrated his ability to lead groups in the real world and even though some of these things have not translated online many of them have. And constant tweaks and adjustments are being made to ensure the dynamics of the way groups work in the off-line world are applied successfully in the virtual world we have.

Many of the smart teachings I've read said that success leaves clues. Since Simon has been successful he is someone I have a lot allied myself with and recommend you do the same. maerichl, you get the nail right on the head and neck as humans we are social creatures and run in packs. There are always a very few leaders who rise above and choose leadership and the rest of the people are happy to follow.

Re: If you were a corporation, what’s your stock worth?

It is very interesting how we make new friends. And there's been lots of studies done and different tactics taught by so-called gurus on how to speed up this process of real friend making. There are some tactics which can speed up the process but only to a certain point. Once you get really good whenever you meet somebody new there is always going to be that initial incubation period where there's a minimum timeframe required for them to trust you if you trust them.

Thinking about ourselves in terms of a corporation with stock value can be very useful.
