Thank you for the article, and the list of funding available. Let me tell you that I believe this to be a bad advice for people who want to live in Europe. Mainly two reasons:

There is a ceiling to how much I can pay you without you having a degree (1500 euros per month in Portugal). That's the minimum for someone with a PhD. This applies to both public and private companies using public funding (almost all of them). Maybe you can find a company that pays you regardless of your degree, but you are reducing your options by a lot.

Secondly, you cannot get funding without a degree. Research projects and University Positions require you to have a PhD degree. Other options require you to have some kind of degree, but pay way worse as they are designed to help students.

On the other hand, if you are pursuing a PhD degree (especially in C.S.), you can get funding quite easily. It's actually better to get paid to do your research and get a PhD as a side-effect.

This being said, for highly motivated individuals, with an aptitude for self-learning, the formal degree (regardless of BSc, MSc or PhD) in C.S. doesn't give you much. Mostly having to deal with other people, processes and schedules. Which is learning anyway, just not C.S. But if you are going to learn, make sure you get a degree in the process as it will be helpful for a lot of scenarios. You can even get paid to get it!

Take a look at Kubb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wik.... It's pretty much what you described, without the stacking of towers. However, it is lengthier in a way that you strike an opponent's tower, they throw it to your midfield and now you have N+1 towers defending you.

Since importing wood from Germany is very expensive (even to Portugal, inside the EU), I made a set at the local wood shop.

Thank you for your reply! I was mistaken in thinking ruby would always be running. I might revert the changes and go back to Passenger, but without the one sinatra app that was requiring ruby.

In practical use, I can easily restart apps (touch tmp/restart.txt) and configure them with 1 line in the apache config file.

So, from what I read, it would be beneficial if OSes would provide a least common denominator video coded, instead of having Browser vendors fight that battle. I wonder how it would go with FSF and MS on the same table...

And what if the browsers installed their bundle codecs into the whole OS? WebM would then be available for every app. I believe it is possible to do it in Windows, and in Mac if you rely on the avi/mov containers for playback.

Finally, you still have the choice to use another (even proprietary) codec for the <video> tag, you just need to ensure that the user has that coded available, right?
