I listen to local two way radio conversations around our town. Our tax dollars pay for emergency services and Walmarts takes more then it's fair share of our services. If residents called the Police and Fire Departments as much as they do, residents taxes couldn't begin to cover this cost. It's pretty bad when you know the address by number of local businesses on 9W before the name of the business is announced on the town radios. I think the businesses that take the majority of our services should pay for the majority of our services. So many false fire alarms are heard, I wonder if Walmart is paying our town for all these false alarm responses? I wonder if other assisted living homes are paying more for all the emergency services they are consuming from our town. If not I think it's time they do. The ones who use the most should pay the most. False alarms should be charged and continued false alarms should carry heftier fines fee's. How much are these businesses costing this community? Plenty... They make a profit in Bethlehem, they use a lot of our services, they should pay for all they use or take.

Re: Spotlight News: Emergency responders to be recognized

We are quite fortunate to have such dedicated emergency responders in Bethlehem. Good on all of you who played a part in rescuing this young man from that amazing fire. You placed your life in danger to save another, I can think of no more worthy cause, true professionals that are dedicated to our town residents. Good on you guys!!!

Re: Spotlight News: Route 9 in Selkirk closed due to accident

I know about this accident and ice was everyplace on 9W. There will be repeat accidents in this location until the state fixes the drainage problems.

Re: Spotlight News: Route 9 in Selkirk closed due to accident

Chris there are many points of view on the speed limit. I for one wouldn't mind a speed limit of 95 on Interstates. Please tell me how a truck can go 70 up Corning Hill? Not possible! I would be willing to bet most people don't like the 55mph speed limit hence the reason they go faster. I know I do. People have busy lives not all of us can stay home and take notice and tell the rest of us how wrong we are.

Re: Spotlight News: Route 9 in Selkirk closed due to accident

Chris, the driver was not from the area, it was evening time and black ice was all over 9W. Many things contributed to this accident.

Re: Spotlight Newspapers | 24/7

Beside the main reason for this transcription another problem I see with the conversation is the question "We taped or what?". This indicates that one knew the conversation is inappropriate at that moment, and one realized it and identified it to the other, in other words it's a common conversation that usually occurs on untaped communication medias. I guess no one can change the way another thinks. I guess someone in the Beth. PD is a problem based on the Chief's thoughts, wonder who he was speaking of and why.....

Re: Spotlight Newspapers | Local News

Stand up for yourself Officer Hughes, this thing will quietly go away without explanation from the towns management. Don't let them get away without an explanation, because god knows they would "crack he whip" on you, if you said the same thing. Bully tactics, and smearing your name by discounting your information and attempting to publicly embarrass you, seem to be part of Beth. management's plan. Remember we all get to vote on who leads our town very very soon. Residents of Bethlehem, why don't we remind the almighty at the town hall who they work for. They work for you, you do not work for the supervisor or the police chief. Mr Sam Messinar is looking better and better each passing day. Mr Cunningham, do the right thing and be honest with town residents. Find out what happened immediately and take the appropriate action and be done with it already. Chief, if you did say something wrong, admit it, apologize (if you mean it) and move on. Everybody makes mistakes and says things in anger, even police chiefs. This mess appears to be a cover up by many town residents, and you guys are making it easy for me and several others I speak with to make up our minds about who were voting for. Just do the right thing and do it quickly please. We have so many more expensive and urgent problems in this town like utility outages that keep occurring and never seem to go away in special parts of this town that management is either ignoring or refusing to repair while the town park (nice to have) is constantly funded. We need to get our priorities straight in this town and we need to do it NOW!
