Taking an international cruise that stops in multiple ports offers a fantastic way to "taste" the culture of many countries in a way you couldn't get traveling traditionally in the same timeframe. I've travelled around Greece, the Baltic Sea, the Med, SE Asia and the Danube River via cruise vacations and have phenomenal experiences I'd never afforded because of cost and limited vacation time otherwise. With a day or 2 in port, it is essential you take some initiative though. You're not going to learn/see much by just walking off the ship. Be adventurous or sign up for excursions and guided activities to get the best learning experiences.

Re: Adaptive Vs. Responsive Design

Nice breakdown of the differences here. In my earlier UX days, there was much confusion among people about the differences. One big difference you don't mention, but I often saw coupled in with Adaptive Design is that in addition to set widths for design, there might be alternate content displayed at those widths. A simple example is a page made up of 6 modules. Adaptive design would mean 1 or more modules might be coded to be hidden at certain screen sizes. So, Adaptive became a solution when you needed more than a fluid design to happen.

Re: The Force is strong with these Star Wars app icons

These are great! And brings up a question I've been asking myself, but not finding a real answer for anywhere. If the artist doesn't have licensing secured through Lucas to sell this work, doesn't it constitute copyright infringement? I've got a collection of original Star Wars figures that have inspired many creative pieces of my own, but I've never thought it was legal to try and sell them.

Re:

I often use the umbrella comparison to describe my own breadth of work withing UX. She's spot on regarding the need to understand UCD principles as your guide and other tools secondary. The variance among projects and clients is so great, one size does not fit all and adaptability rules, but UCD principles stay universal.

Re: Piser Funeral Home site sold, retail development planned

Such a shame considering the traffic they'd get. And it would hopefully drive another reputable business to take over the beautiful vacant space on the NW corner of Foster/Broadway.

Re: “Vintage Market” Coming Soon

Any contact info for people interested in participating as a vendor?

Re: Which Logo Do You Like Best (6 Months Later, I STILL suck At Design)

I prefer Logo B. The test tube is more easily recognized as a symbol of chemistry and "formulas" or "recipes". However, I suggest exploring additional space between the letters. The 2 "L"s in "Presell" form a distracting black line where they join up. And the letters in "Formula" look a little bunched together and have inconsistent line widths between them like in the "rm" pair. It almost looks like part of the "r" is behind the "m".

You're bringing back my time as a typographer when I first got out of school! Nice work!

Re: My Life In a Cube :: So Depressing It's Almost Funny

Yea, you're gonna freak out for awhile. Then, you're going to realize you have the freedom to put 100% of your energies into your illustration career for yourself, not somebody else. (I think you said you were quitting your FT gig to work full-time on your illustration.) The freak-outs return occasionally for different reasons, but it's part of the fun.

Re: My Life In a Cube :: So Depressing It's Almost Funny

Congrats on the new adventure! The cube walls are gone (and so is the water cooler). Time to design work/life/fun on your terms. Good luck!

Re: My Life In a Cube :: So Depressing It's Almost Funny

This is similar to the discovery your fly is down once you get into the office after a 40min bus commute!

Re: My Life In a Cube :: So Depressing It's Almost Funny

Funny sketch since that happened in my office the other day and what I heard was, "Oh no, I can't work without my inter-webs!" Too funny!

Re: http://www.mylifeinacube.com/post/47424485

Gotta love bench time. Unfortunately, as a freelancer, you have to make up something to put that time to. I get to the point of saying I'm going to take a few days off until you have real work for me to do. Good time to catch up on "me".
