I've spent a lot of time in Frisco because many relatives live there, and I enjoyed this podcast.

However, not discussing the lack of public transport is a serious dereliction of duty. One of the officials even admits it, and no further talk of it is made. Climate change is the most important issue facing us today, and the car-centric infrastructure of Frisco and northern suburbs is simply not sustainable.

And a couple people mention the lack of income taxes, and while this is true, this lack of revenue is made up by other forms of taxes which are mostly regressive. Upper-income people — the people that these companies moving to DFW area court — do get to live a reduced tax life, but it's on the backs of their lower-income neighbors.

Their watches and some belt buckles are made in Switzerland. Their lacquerware is made in Vietnam. I noticed that their Petit H Occasional Table is made in the USA. I'm sure there's a handful of other products made outside of France.

Fun fact: Even though the Petit H Occasional table is made in the USA, and presumably doesn't have any import taxes, it's still considerably more expensive to buy in the USA than France/Euro-countries.

To clarify: the left, right, up & down controls are all inverted on the Macs that use "Natural Scrolling". This was added back in Mac in 2011 to match scrolling to the iPhone. This VR tech use the opposite of natural scrolling which basically makes it impossible to use for a Mac trackpad user. What it needs to do is offer an option to invert scrolling or do it automatically.

It's so hard to use AND I work in tech. Left / Right controls are inverted on a Mac and no way to change that. I end up just accidentally navigating to white walls. It never "locks" to an artwork which would be better. More hassle than it's worth. Honestly, just a simple web-page with big-resolution images would be far better. Or at least an auto-tour that would take you around without having to painstakingly click on each image.

Seasonal bags are limited edition by nature — it doesn't mean much. When seasonal bags are first released, brands may not able to accurately gauge demand, so they sell out and the second hand market is sky-high. Once the second production push comes through though, demand is often satiated and prices go down. Look now, the Pastel OnTheGo is still available online.

Even if a current bag's resell value is high now, in 10 years you really never know if it's going to go much higher, or join the dustbin of trendy bags long since forgotten.

She does not have a better understanding or perspective.

Her 'insight' is trivial and worth nothing. She does not back up her opinion with data, or sources, or citations. She makes sweeping generalizations about a multi-billion illicit industry without anything to back it up, hence she is 'acting like an expert.'

Sure, she has an opinion. It's as worthless as mine or yours on the subject and should be disregarded by everyone else.

Just because one aunt happened to work at one of the counterfeit factories and it was fine doesn't mean the entire industry doesn't fund bad people.

She may roll her eyes at people that make these claims, but I roll my eyes at her because she thinks she's now some kind of expert on the industry because she had this tiny glimpse into the tiniest sliver of it.

You only get anywhere from 11-15% back from EU VAT (all the middlemen have to take their cut of course). And you have to pay customs duty which can be anywhere from 0-9% (depending on how nice the officer is).

So, it's about a wash, give or take a percent or two.

Well, actually, you're supposed to pay both customs duty for your foreign purchases AND a use tax in the state you live in (which is conveniently the same as the sales tax).

So, following the letter of the law, you don't save that much.

As one of those commenters, I disagree. I think it's important for people to realize that salespeople use shady tactics. Buying a bag, especially one so expensive, is such an emotional experience, that it's better if more people are aware in the future if they're being manipulated.

One thing I've learned is that when salespeople tell you that it's limited edition, exclusive, or 'hard-to-find' there's an 87% chance they're lying to you.
