ALWAYS? Do some research. 2011 is the first year that the event sold out. There may have been ticketing snafus before that, with websites crashing, but still - always? The event was free its first several years!

The comment from Rale S reminded me of the idiom, "when you get the call, hang up the phone" - once a person has sufficiently tripped the light fantastic, and seen beyond the veil, that knowledge and perspective stay, regardless of how recent an experience may have been had.

My father-in-law met the love of his life when they were 40. Roughly 3 years later, she was diagnosed with chronic, progressive MS. He stayed with her and never strayed. They loved just holding hands, watching nature shows and movies together. True love that transcends physical/sexual expression is so inspiring.

Get a set of real strings. If you bought a cheap uke, it came with cheap strings. Real ones [~6-15$$] will make real notes and stay in tune, once they settle into place.

Holy moley, what an obnoxious article. Huge fail. I, too, am stunned that KQED decided to publish this tripe. A bunch of my friends live in West Oakland because they are *actually* poor artists [certainly can't afford to live in/near Piedmont!]. Sadly, they keep having their car windows broken. If safety is really more important to you than vibrancy, live in the fog...or Fremont, as another commenter mentioned.

I was going to say that Sunset and Richmond districts still have affordable rents--but then I checked CL and found that the number of 3BR places with rent around or under 3k was very low indeed. Used to be plenty of 3 & 4 BR places in the Sunset for 2500-3000, not that long ago. A few are 2700, but not that many. Less inventory now since it is mid-month, but still. Dang.

But yeah, alone time vs idle chit-chat...self-time is nice. I used to think I was in introvert--maybe I was?
But probably I was just shy...maybe. I hid away with books a lot as a kid. I mostly love being social nowadays.

Tried Don Ramon's at 225 11th St the other night. A friend says it is her favorite. Several reviews agree, some do not. Our friends were disappointed by their chiles rellenos, and another friend found the soft tacos to be good but dry. My husband and I split the plate of two crab enchiladas and found it to be delicious.
