Hey Ben, first off have a great trip! I'll limit myself to the trip you have mapped out, but I would add in one day trip or two. Consider hitting Brussels (just hit city center) to try street fries, waffles, mussels and beer. Amsterdam could also be a nice stop. I would suggest taking trains between places since I find them much more comfy and easier to move around. One of the great things in every town over there is the local wine/beer, so I would suggest escaping the tourist areas after you have seen the highpoints and then explore in each place. I'll second the advice on Barcelona, it's a great city with lots of culture. Most things are compact along Las Ramblas (main street) and spend some time at the Sagrada Familia (climb to the top). And for a break you could hit the beaches in Barcelona or in Portugal. I'm surprised you are not couch surfing!

Good point, so I just made a small change to the disqus-form.css file (linked above) and added the styling for the comments (look for ".dsq-comment-message" without the quotes). I have mine set to 11px size and gray (cccccc) color.

Publishing has the same problem as the music industry... some big players that made (past tense) too much money. They will keep their head in the sands until it is too late. Once you have a centralized store for all content at Apple/Amazon, publishers are only bringing what.. editing to the table?

Disqus is a blog commenting platform, so you only need it when you make comments on blogs that happen to run Disqus, or you run a blog (like I do) and have installed it. But you should be able to use it to find other blogs that might be of interest to you.

I've not noticed any duplicate content in regards to search, at least when using the JS version that places the content directly on your page. Not sure what would happen if you had the content in an iFrame though, but either way we are only talking about the comments, not the posts.

I agree, having a reference guide for the elements would make it much more useful and powerful. I don't actually think they are trying to limit custom styles, my impression is that they are leaving it wide open for custom styles and they are doing as little as possible. Probably comes down to them not having a lot of time to put it together.

Great idea overall and especially the WP integration. But I'm having a bit of trouble. I have the plugin installed and activated on my WP blog running 2.8. When I try to enter a WP backp key, the form just refreshes and removes the key I entered (but leaves my LSB email). It gives no indication there was a problem, or that it actually saved it. When I try and add my blog to LSB I get an error:
"Your email and plugin key should coincide with credentials from ls-backup plugin settings page of your blog. Please correct."

I have tried this from Safari 4 and FF 3.5, both on the Mac.

And as a product suggestion, it is not clear at all that a key should be CREATED in the WP plugin and I could enter anything I wanted. Many services create a key for you (and email etc) and have you paste the key, which is what I was trying to figure out until I happen to find this page (which is not linked from plugin btw). Just make it clear that the user needs to create the key.

It is ironic, Fred linked to this post and that is how I landed on this page. Does seem silly to force users to have to search for something, thus making it harder to judge for ourselves.
