Plenty of photographers shoot SOOC only. Not most, but a good number. And for testing purposes, yes, SOOC is better. Editing can cover up a lot.

I think this is just poorly written. Each of those areas are under a flash flood watch, but are not necessarily close to Houston.

I'd like to point out that a family on government assistance using cloth is a GOOD thing. Even if they have a stash of 24 Bumgenius diapers at $17.95 each, that's $430.80. Less if they bought them on this most recent CB sale (buy 5, get 1 free). That is FAR less money than they would spend buying disposables and more monthly disposable income that would enable them to get off of food stamps and other government assistance.

If you're talking about a family with a Goodmama stash into the thousands worth (and is it still cheaper than disposables is the real question??), I doubt that's going to be many families you see.

Cloth diapering is a way to save money, even when you happen to have fun while doing it.

What about the family not getting paid a living wage? I find it interesting that you are talking about the guy who invented insulin and how he made an altruistic choice but you're completely okay with supporting the factory worker's decision to pay their employees pennies. WAHMs in the US get to profit but not the women making the diapers, right?

To be fair to the author, she's showcasing Alvas and their unbranded counterparts which have no WAHM fronting the company IN China. Alvas and unbranded diapers are made in a factory with no one even pretending to oversee fair wages. Then the quality suffers, but people buy them for $2-3 each and sell them for $8-10 on swap boards and people who are new to the CDing world get taken. Or, my goodness, they get bought, labeled with some cutesy name and sold for more than Bumgenius pockets!

I'm not Kim, but I wash all of my diapers in the same load. The general restrictions are detergent types, no dryer, little to no bleach, etc. It really depends on how much you care about the warranty. :)
