Very well said!
This very discussion, in a way, drives me mad. If information is repeated verbatim which is not allowed to be repeated verbatim in said instance, then that is wrong.
That means that the neural network was allotted too many neurons, or some other number was wrong there, so that it memorizes and repeats - making it no different than just a pirate website.
However, if it trains in a good way, so that it can't "remember" and thus it produces what I nickname AI: Artificial _Intuition_, then yes, it's a wonderful tool like you've described, much like encyclopedias or the Dewey decimal classification are.

If the source contains information which must not be known, top secret spy information, then why is it available for a small fee?
I mean, AI won't spit out my emails or make up a new one because it wasn't trained on them. It wasn't, because I'm keeping them private. That is not the case with information sources such as newspapers.

And as you've said, it's a large LANGUAGE model. It does language, not facts. It can do better if you train it on a dataset, say - paste all of the NYT archive into it and demand that it only uses that. But in that case you've paid for it. If you can ask it to search through the NYT archive for you, then that's not data that's been "digested" by it. That's a bookshelf available to the language model, and if it's not allowed to have that, that's the same as a journalist not allowed to.

The past paragraphs eliminated edge cases one by one.
We are left with this: An artificial intuition model that can't repeat more than a sentence or two verbatim from a source; That was not fed by proper secret data like trade secrets; and that has no access to the sources.
It can say "I think I saw something about it in last week's paper, page 3. It says that X is Y".
But it can't say "Last week's paper says, quote," and then repeat paragraphs.

As for performance, the aforementioned removal of edge cases removes ingenuity and uniqueness from a performance. If someone's lyrics are wise, artificial intuition won't be able to think up new smart things. If their music is addictive, the intuition's made up music will sound similar but bland. And if a singer can hit amazing notes and so does the AI, that's not very impressive; Much like how recently someone got a very high achievement on Tetris, which an AI got a while earlier, but nobody cared because the human is what's interesting.

If a music artist is worth anything, an AI recreation will sound bland but similar. It will sound like a bad, shallow Weird Al parody without a point.

That is not a danger to anyone.

The caveats, the edge cases, are - therefore we must address THEM. Responsibility on the developer's side of things.

And if new, creative AI technology emerges, talk about it then, when everybody knows what they're facing.

יש על השולחן קלפים עם מילים, שחקן אחד נותן לקבוצה שלו מילת רמז והם צריכים לנחש לאילו מילים היא רומזת, עם עונשים בינוניים עד כבדים על טעויות. יש יותר תחכום מזה אבל זה לא רלוונטי לקומיקס הזה...
ה"שתיים" שם הוא מספר המילים שמתאימות לרמז.

זה די החליף את קלפים נגד האנושות בתור המשחק הכיפי שמשחקים כשבא סתם משהו כיפי קבוצתי ל4-8 ככה (אם כי המשחק מוגדר מ-2 שחקנים, הוא עובד אחרת עם 2-3)

מול כל הפלאגינים שנותנים יכולות כיפיות ונוחות - WordFence לוקח, בגדול. הוא תוסף אבטחה שפשוט עושה את העבודה, וחוץ מבערך לשנות את wp-admin לא נשאר יותר מדי מה לעשות (לא הזכרתי לשנות את שם המשתמש admin, למרות שעדיין צריך, כי גם אם שכחתם הוא יגן מ brute force וכאלה)

יש לי אתרים שנמצאים בשוטף תחת מתקפה חיצונית שאי אפשר לעצור. כל כמה ימים WordFence מספר לי שהוא חסם ברוט פורס להתחברות (אתרים שבהם בינתיים החלטנו להשאיר את wp-admin מסיבות ספציפיות) - וכלום לא עובר אותו. יש מתקפה והיא לא מזיזה לי.

פרצו לאתר שלי לפני שהשתמשתי בתוסף הזה. לא ברור מה קרה - אני מעריכה שגליץ' של האחסון. ההתקנה התמלאה בקבצי פה"פ מעורבלים (נראה כאילו רצו להשתמש בנו בשביל DDOS למישהו אחר) - WF השווה לקבצי המקור וניקה הכל.

ובגללו הרבה מהידע שלי באבטחת וורדפרס הפך להיות למטרות עניין ולא פרקטיקה :P

נ.ב. כמובן שיש עוד דרכים לחסום ברוט פורס או להשוות ולהתקין גרסה מקורית של וורדפרס והפלאגינים מול הקודקס. אבל זה מהיר יותר, דורש פחות התעסקות (זה לא באמת מרגש לחסום ברוט פורס וכו') ואם יצוץ משהו חדש יש מצב שהם יגלו אותו לפניכם כי בזה הם מתמקדים.

ניסיתי את המנגנון על אתר וורדפרס לא גדול ולא קטן של 4,000-5,000 וזה נתן 2,800-3,800.

הפרמטרים בין אתרים כל כך שונים, והרבה מהם לא נכללים פה (בעוד שאחרים זניחים כן, כמו "לייק", שבוורדפרס ממומש ע"י פלאגין) כך שמה שיקרה שלקוח יבוא עם אתר ששווה 10,000, המחשבון יגיד לו 7,000, והוא יכעס כאילו אנחנו לא בסדר.
אם זה קורה באמצע הפרויקט הוא יכול גם להחליט לא לשלם - מספיק אנחנו מתמודדים עם כאלו.

אני לא באה באנטי, דוקא הייתי שמחה לכלי שיעשה לי סדר בתמחורים וגם שאוכל להראות ללקוחות ש"אלו המחירים בשוק". פשוט המימוש עדיין לא אידיאלי. אני לא בטוחה שאפשר לעשות מימוש אידיאלי.

פספסתי את הדדליין, אבל תשובה לשם התשובה - אני אוהבת פרונט אנד וובי כי זה יהיה התשובה להכל. בסופו של דבר, כמעט כל מכשיר שמחובר לאינטרנט מריץ דפדפן ותומך בפרונט אנד. דברים שנעשים באמצעים אחרים ויכולים להיעשות עם JS, HTML, CSS - יכחדו לטובת הפרונט אנד. זה אוניברסלי, זה מתפתח (וסוף סוף עם ECMA6 זה גם מתחיל להתבגר בהתאם) וזה עליית דרגה בעולם של בלגן פלטפורמות ושפות.

לא שבפרונט אנד אין בלגן אבל ניחא :)

If there's culture around the food's preparation I can see how a "dumbed down" version would be offensive - disrespectful to the culture, and it'd give that culture's food a bad name ("I don't like sushi, I had it in my college's cafeteria and it was too sweet and otherwise flavorless!" "So this is naan? It's boring, I'm never having that again")

Though I do agree that the reaction may be a bit stronger than it should be.

What about calling it "American style-"? American style sushi, as opposed to real sushi etc. Making food as it traditionally should be made may be too much of an effort, and then you're stuck with a smaller culinary variety.

אני שוב בספק שיתבעו מורה לגיטרה, בשלן וכו' על שלא שמו אלט בהדר. וגם כך מערכות ניהול תוכן נותנות דברים כאלו כברירת מחדל, גם מפתח מתחיל יודע מה זה אלט, וכותרות מתאימות ממילא יהיו כי הבשלן ירצה לכתוב ליד התמונה של הקוסקוס "קוסקוס".
אם לא זה, אז כשיפנו למומחה SEO - למשל המאמן שרוצה להתחיל קריירה ולא רוצה להיות חאפר - הוא ידחף להם טקסט בכל מקום כי גוגל גם הוא סוג של עיוור.

אבל אם, למשל, בנק לא מנגיש את המערכות שלו כי "זה מעט אנשים, מה אנחנו צריכים לבזבז על זה כסף" - שיכנסו בהם. אם לקוח בן 30 יכול להעביר כסף באתר שלהם גם לקוח בן 70 צריך להיות מסוגל.

יאפ. אם השקשוקה (למה זכרתי פסטה? אולי הגבתי מהסלולרי) היא מנה מומלצת, יש מקום לשים כיתוב או אלט "מומלץ: השקשוקה שלנו"
כי אז מה שמנסים להגיד זה לא "תראו, שקשוקה" אלא "אנחנו ממליצים על זה" וזה בהחלט תוכן. אם כי אני בספק שיקחו מישהו למשפט גם על זה :)

במקרה הזה, בגלל שחצי מהדף הוא שקשוקות והן ויזואלית לא עד כדי כך שונות זו מזו, התמונה נראית כמו רק משהו לעורר את התאבון, דבר שגם הכותרת "שקשוקות" עושה, ולכן קישוט. שרק יהיה מלל מיותר לגולש עם קורא מסך.

לגבי חובבנים, אם חובבן עשה שאתר של קפה קפה יהיה לא נוח לעוורים, הוא גרוע כמו חובבן שעשה שכסאות בקפה קפה יהיו צרים מדי לשמנים.
הוא יכול לעשות לעצמו אתר מכוער בכיף, ובכלל התרשמתי שאתרים פרטיים לא חייבים לציית לחוק - כמו שגם הבית הפרטי שלי לא מונגש.
אבל קפה קפה אני מצפה שלא יקחו חובבנים ולא ישתמשו ב"אבל זה האתר הראשון שלי" בתור תירוץ לזה שמישהו לא יכול לקרוא את התפריט בגלל שהוא בן 60.

אתה בטוח שבפייסבוק אין מגבלה חוקית? למשל אם הוא יכול להכניס תיאור לתמונה ולא עושה כך... אפשר להתייחס לפייסבוק כאל מערכת ניהול תוכן, הרי היא נותנת לו מה שלמשל וורדפרס או וויקס נותנים.

אגב, משהו מוזר: בלי להיות מחוברת למשתמש ב disqus ראיתי פה רק תגובה אחת. את השרשור הזה לא ראיתי.

אני לא מסכימה - התפריט נועד להיות אינפורמטיבי. הניסוח לעיל מתכוון ב sensory experience דברים שמוסיפים תוכן הכרחי כמו למשל קטגוריות שהן תמונות (תמונה של פסטה לקטגוריית הפסטות, תמונה של עוגה לקטגוריית הקינוחים) שיהיה חסר ללקויי ראיה - קורא מסך קורא את הדוגמה הנ"ל בתור "קישור, קישור".

החוויה שבתמונה נלווית לטקסט של מנה אקראית שנראית טוב היא קישוטית ולא אינפורמטיבית. באותה מידה ניתן לטעון שזה שהרקע בצבע כלשהו זה sensory experience, במיוחד למשל אם הרקע אמור ליצור תחושת רוגע, תחושת עניין או רחמנא לצלן להתכתב עם הלוגו. אז האם גם רקע דורש אלט טקסט? לא, כי הוא לא מעביר מסר.
גם בתפריט, תמונה של מנה לא מעבירה מסר מלבד הטריויאלי - "האוכל שלנו נראה טוב".

לו היתה מעבירה מסר - למשל, אם רק בעזרת התמונה היית יכול לדעת שיש פרמזן על הפסטה - נסכים שנינו שחייבים אלט טקסט, לא?

אפשר לקרוא את החוקים בצורה יבשה, אבל אז הם לא יכסו את הכל מחד, ויכסו יותר מדי מאידך. אי אפשר לנסח חוק מושלם, אבל אין ברירה אלא לכתוב חוק - ויהיה הוא בלתי מושלם.
בעצמך אמרת שהמציאו מורכבת וכו', אבל בלי חוק אנחנו בפועל נשארים עם אתרים שלא תומכים.

אני מאמינה שאף אחד לא יקח אותך למשפט על אלט טקסט על תמונה שלא אומרת כלום.

למיטב ידיעתי 2 לא נכון. כשהתמונה לא מכילה מידע אלא היא רק קישוט לגיטימי לתת לה אלט ריק, אם כבר אז זה יעזור לאנשים מוגבלי ראיה להבדיל בין עיקר לטפל.

1 ו3 הם בהחלט דברים שיש לתקן, עיוורון צבעים זה דבר נפוץ והבנאדם לא מצליח לקרוא ככה. אפשר לטעון, עם זאת, שבסעיף 1 סדר המידע נותן את המשמעות. כלומר, אם תמיד אחוזי השומן הם ראשונים, הצבע הוא רק תוספת.

אבל כן, אם למישהו התפריט של הבודהה נראה כמו דף ריק בגלל שהוא בירוק על ירוק יואילו המעצבים ויבחרו צבע שלא נבלע ברקע. זה לא נישתי או הזוי.

מי שלא יודע לעצב דברים שאנשים יכולים לראות בנוחות שילמד עיצוב. לגבי התכנות (הקבלה לתכנות) אין שם בעיה.

That sort of happened to me at a nonprofit organisation I volunteer at, so I couldn't even say "okay, but it's going to cost you more". In fact, the client refused to even define what he wanted, because "you know what I mean, right?" (even after I argued that I don't)

I once changed e-mail addresses on a website from <username>@post.<"company"> to <username>@<"company"> because both worked (aliases to each other) and the latter looks more professional.

I got emergency e-mails saying that the emails are "wrong". I replied to the address sans the word "post" proving that both versions of the address are correct, and pointed that out. They still panicked that "nothing" is working. I had to change everything to the less professional version.

כלים שרלוונטיים למפתחי פרונט? יש מליון כלים ומה שנוצר זה עומס מיותר. אבל הכלי שהתרגלנו כל כך להשתמש בו הוא מובנה והוא לא מעמיס... ה Developer Tools (או בפיירפוקס פיירבאג) הישן והטוב. כמה שלא נדבר על פריימוורקים מגניבים או תוכנות שעוזרות לעניין זה או אחר, כלי הפיתוח הללו מנתחים לנו את העמוד (DOM, CSS, JS, שימוש ברשת...) ונותנים לנו להתערב בדף דינאמית בשביל לראות מה קורה. וזה רלוונטי לכל פרוייקט פרונט מהזעיר ביותר לגדול ביותר.

Netanyahu does not equal Israel. And I'm an Israeli.
He has brought us to an all time low on many aspects of life and many of us hope he'll be replaced in the upcoming elections.

Be prepared for drama, though, because with a speech this close to elections time and him being a master of deceipt and public control, he's going to pull something to have the votes in Israel swing his way.

For instance, he may try to get bad rep just so he can claim that "the entire world hates us" so we should ignore internal issues and focus on fearing everyone else. In fact, he did that today - answered a question about the ever rising cost of living with "nevermind that, look, there's Iran!"

Actually, the story behind hot coffee being hot is that they used to make it hotter than it was legal and someone got seriously burned. Like, entire pieces of flesh were gone. There are photos online but make sure you're not eating when you look them up.

The fan-critics aren't criticising people who think the Doctor looks good. They criticise people who think it's crucial to the show and who would stop watching if he weren't attractive.

That said, I do resent the use of the word "girls" in the common slang "fangirls" - it promotes sexism. It implies that all girls who are fans are like that (and ignores guys who are fans and like that - some gay male fans for instance)

We're probably not supposed to know yet but a poor choice of words on Matt's behalf implies that probably not.
On his departure message he said that Trenzalore is waiting for him.

After some things Moffat has said in the past I'm not sure we'll ever find out. Not every little detail should be given a thorough explanation - just like in reality. Assuming the Doctor Who universe isn't reality, that is.

So we're okay with the TARDIS not liking Captain Jack, but puzzled about Clara? :)

Why did the Clara splinters in Asylum and Snowmen say "run you clever boy and remember"? Because the splinters are often unaware of what they really are, but bits of the original Clara's memories leak through. Like that bit from Bells of St. John, where she says "Oswald for the win! Os-win!" leaking through into Asylum.

- If people complain about a plot, and then about a lack of a plot, is there a way of pleasing them?
(I liked the plot in s.6)

- Why do Amy and Rory need to save the world in their departure?

- The Doctor wasn't supposed to break River's wrist according to the book. He was supposed to say he's breaking the wrist, and he did. The book wasn't rewritten.

- "The Doctor didn’t have any genius ideas to save them this time" and he was ruthless and violent in previous episodes, all because he didn't have a companion to balance him out in the 300 years between Lake Silencio take 1 and Angels Take Manhattan. How much did he see Amy & Rory during that time?

- "when Rory decided on a plan of action, a paradox that would kill the Weeping Angels, I knew it would work"
Amy could've died. It could've worked but kill Rory or erase him again. Though then we wouldn't have the final parting scene which is crucial to the entire plot of Amy Pond.

- "The Doctor claimed they couldn’t use the TARDIS to go back.. but why?" Because landing in that time was tricky as it was, even with a vortex manipulator. See the traffic & motorcycle comparison.

- Why do companions *have* to leave after universe-changing events? Why does every exit have to follow the same rules?

- "But I think a lot of you will agree with me the Weeping Angels effects have been minimized thanks to Moffat’s usage of them. I often wish he had left “Blink” alone."
I agree, but I don't think they were the focus of the episode as much as they were in Blink. They were a tool to toss Rory around like a dog tearing his toy apart and send us running after him until we can't.

- "And Moffat seemed to play out his own forgetfulness through the Doctor" throughout series 5-7 the Doctor is Peter Pan, an eternal child with some attempts to snap out of that, but they aren't good enough. Much like how in the 11th Hour he doesn't care about little Amelia's parents missing ("I don't have a mum and dad, just an aunt" "I don't even have an aunt!" - speaking like a child). That's also why he doesn't like seeing people grow old, because in his Neverland they shouldn't.

- "[DoaS skipped] especially the Silurian plot thread that was the basis for the entire episode" how much content can you cram into an episode? In series 7 the aliens are just tools, they're not the point.

A. the Doctor is a round character. 13 years ago I was a soldier who didn't know what she'll end up doing in the army, today (10 years after I was relieved) I don't know if I'd take most of the options I had back then. People change. The Doctor had 300 years of loneliness - it affected him.
That scene was spot on! It shows us what happens to him when he travels alone. That's why it's so important for River and Amy to tell him that.
Same goes for murdering Solomon.

- "No one in the show thought it was a big deal and it was never addressed after the fact" - same thing. It was addressed time and again in the closing of episode 5.

- "The Doctor spent a great deal of time on Earth with the Ponds and all we saw was him being really, really bored"
No! That was just the beginning. He got bored, then he couldn't help but go to his previous lifestyle and drag Amy & Rory with him. But then missing them and the problems with him travelling alone took over him and he asked if he could stay because *shyly* he misses them. He wants to live differently because he needs the Ponds.

But as soon as the cubes do something he's DELIGHTED - to go back into his old lifestyle. And on he runs into yet another portal and alien encounter and feels like he's "home" again.

The cubes are analogous to the TARDIS in a way. The Doctor is forced not to operate the cubes in any way, live outside of his intriguing alien box and look at the little black boxes from the outside without any interaction. "Little boxes will make you angry".

THAT SAID -
I did feel something was missing. I enjoyed the episodes, but especially with Moffat's episode the chase he often does with my brain was gone. In the 11th Hour, Pandorica Opens / Big Bang, Let's Kill Hitler and the rest (bar Beast Below) he was playing tag with my brain. I tried to chase him and then I caught him and then I didn't and then my brain was metaphorically hyperventilating from the activity. TATM was more predictable, and though I had fun seeing the themes playing out, it didn't blow my mind. Which is fine for a regular show but I expect more from a show that's on the top of my list and that's considered the best running scifi show.

I can't tell what was missing because I don't want to change the ideas they conveyed in the background. But some complications were missing.
