Think it's safe to say that cellphone companies are all scamming us for wireless data rates now to connect to social media sites or even using iMessage/WhatsApp/whatever else. When you consider the relatively slow wireless 3g connections we get for the price we pay (500mb data cap for $20 is WAY too expensive), compared to wireless data rates in Japan or South Korea (which are a lot faster and a lot cheaper)... something just doesn't add up. Techvibes actually put out an article about how Canadian telcos have higher than ever profits all because of wireless data usage (http://www.techvibes.com/bl....

The only thing we can really be thankful for - here in Vancouver anyways - is that there are coffee shops literally on every block so we're never really too far from free wifi access to get back on Facebook and Twitter. :)

Have a 4S as well and find Siri pretty useless, especially here in Canada where map integration with Siri is mysteriously not supported. Also, for the record, Siri doesn't understand me half the time I've tried asking questions -- and I'd like to think I have a very neutral "Canadian" accent (whatever that is). I don't think it's so much that Siri/Apple doesn't like anything besides Western accents, but just that Siri is kind of a shitty product right now.

Why don't you just sleep on a futon on the floor? Saves you from having to carve out a giant hole in the middle of your bedroom, and it has the same visual/spatial effect.

Thanks for the post, guys. I think all of you managed to put to words what all of us, as young Canadians, felt about Jack Layton's contributions and how his passing has greatly affected - I hope - all of Canada. His final letter was beautiful and inspiring and exactly what we needed to hear on such a sad moment.

Single life is always good for travelling. Once in a serious relationship, travel plans become twice as hard to actually materialize into anything concrete. It's kind of sad.

But, on the flip side, you have to think, what good would depriving yourself of luxuries do for the little boy in Africa living in poverty? Would self-restraint without further action do anything to benefit him? Isn't it a waste of a life of privilege if you were to just forsake all that you are blessed with because you feel guilty that you are in the group of "have's" and there are a majority of people in the world who are in the group of "have not's"? Not saying you should spend frivolously because, obviously, every purchase we make indirectly affects someone in the third world whether we like to admit it or not, but, well, there will always be people who can afford luxuries and some who can't. That's just the harsh realities of life. It's a tough one.

Just be like Angelina Jolie and buy all the Louis Vuitton your heart desires but make up for it by adopting kids from the developing world.

Yeah, me too! I would spend about an hour a day for about a month just writing hiragana and katakana over and over til I had them memorized... In retrospect, not so hard to learn how to read or write either. Kanji, on the other hand... :|

Ha! Talk about an "only in Japan" moment(s). As much as I love the Kanto region, in hindsight, I actually really did enjoy Shikoku as well. Such a completely different 'Japan' than Tokyo.
