I bought a similar model Consolette, and my electrical engineer father in law kindly informed me of all the ways it's a potential death trap. Even though I lucked out and got one that's apparently never been used, the bearings need to be lubed and the wiring replaced. Old gadgets also don't have the same safety features to shut off if something overheats or goes wrong, and he recommended taping a photoelectric smoke sensor inside the hood.

Hair dryers before 1980 also often contained asbestos. There was a big recall program and I didn't see any Consolettes on the recall list, but it's definitely something to take seriously when buying vintage things that get hot (asbestos was used as insulation).

Thermostats back then also were sometimes made of beryllium copper, which apparently will slowly kill you if you happen to get cut with it.

I haven't had my dryer serviced yet to know which deadly issues it actually has, just wanted to raise awareness since I had no idea what I was getting into. Any small appliance repair shop should be able to check everything out.

Re: The Best iPad Mini Cases (So Far!)

I've used this case for a year and highly recommend it. Fits great, feels great, very sturdy. Profiles are not a destination, they are an extension into a network to encourage users to check out your blog / website / home base / whatever. Sufficient networks already exist (Yelp, LinkedIn), and I don't see MyCityFaces changing Internet search behavior en masse to look for service people on their site instead of Googling "San Diego $industry."
