Reminds me of CK Prahalad's book "Fortune at the bottom of the pyramid". There are examples of how it can be done. I found it inspiring.

I saw the makeshift tent too driving along 320th. So sad. And it wasn't even their fault.
Driver's ed is a good idea. You learn how to NOT hit other people.
Will Defensive Driving teach us how to avoid being hit by someone who isn't careful ?

The City of Federal Way, Police Dept, FW Public Schools, youth agencies and ordinary citizens are already working together to address this community issue.

APPRECIATE what we have - what's available, what's being provided, what's being worked on, and who's doing all the work to build community.

Isn't it sad that right above this story is an ad for a Teen Safe Driver Program offered by American Family Insurance!!! I wonder how many people paid attention to that!

I think the program involves installing a cam to monitor activities inside and outside the car when the teen is driving. Apparently a video clip is captured 10 secs before and after "an incident" for review by a driving school coach so parents can be informed. And I believe the program requires no extra cost.

Sounds like a great PARENT BENEFIT to me. Bad habits, cell phone use, texting, drinking, and other distractions can be caught and remedied earlier.

I am sorry to hear about what happened to Heather. I also feel bad for the friend Heather was texting to at the time of the crash. What a shame.

I applaud Senator Eide for curbing cell phone use while driving. I've watched drivers brush their teeth, preen themselves....while driving. Applying mascara while driving is up there with texting while driving! What next?

That was an excellent meeting. Thanks to the City (especially Teniel) for providing the opportunity and venue to rally the community on this issue.

I was amazed to hear the array of services offered by those agencies present, including the seemingly "boring" neighborhood library!!! There already exists numerous programs in the area. What a blessing.

I was especially pleased to hear of partnerships among the agencies. No one agency can tackle the problem alone. This problem is huge. While it's logical and fashionable to focus on the kids, we also have to be willing to look at ourselves to see if we are somehow failing our kids in the first place.

Concerned citizens at the meeting asked good questions. We need to hear more from the community.

Do they know what's going on?
Do they know where to get help?
Do they know how to protect themselves?
If they want to help, do they know how?

Let's set up a forum and keep the dialogue going.

I created a website for a friend who has terminal liver disease. I welcome folks to leave messages for him.

I have been getting tons of drug ads (particularly Viagra) posted by people with random alpha-numbers as their email. Annoys the heck out of me!

How do I report these people?

I commend Nandell for acting on a prompting to honor and celebrate folks who have silently lived to impact family and society, but not been acknowledged.

It was not just an idea. He acted on it. He personally sponsored the event and brought it to life!

We need more positive reporting in Federal Way. We need more highlights of inspirational acts of kindness that are happening in our community.
Give our kids role models to follow.
Teach us how.

Kudos to Nandell. Thank you for paving the way!

Yes, the word 'schmoozing' has bad connotations. And some people do obviously schmooz - which is why I rejected the idea in the first place. I'm observing people to find the formula I'm comfortable modeling after.

In reality I would probably avoid working/consulting for competing companies in the same area. I see myself as a integral package. I give my all. I cannot fence off one piece of knowledge or wisdom to be off limits....

Hm.. even as I type this, I take that back. We can, and we've all done that before. E.g. we've all successfully told ourselves not to let any biases or previous knowledge of a person/event affect our decision. We can temporarily fence off something that we know about so that it does not affect our decisions/conduct.

However, we have to keep reminding ourselves. It's easy to slip. And who can constantly track what goes on in the deep recesses of our minds? Not me! That's why I think Honesty is the best policy. It takes too much work to keep track of lies. It would drive me crazy!
