I know plenty of three year olds (not mine, thank god, knock on wood) who know not to put something in their mouth, but think it would be HILARIOUS to put a tiny lego up their nose. Kids are weird. If you're not sure, I'd supervise pretty close. Based on our experience this morning, I think the twins did well putting the pieces together, partly because the guys have relatively limited configurational possibilities. Dexterity-wise I think they're not ready for the regular blocks quite yet, primarily because I doubt they'd be able to deal with taking pieces apart. Regular Lego pieces, especially the blocks, can be really difficult for anyone to pry apart. Mokey has much better fine motor skills (she picked up a mechanical pencil lead and handed it to me the other day) but is easily frustrated when her product doesn't match her expectations. I'm guessing they'll do best with more experience with Duplo before launching seriously into regular Legos. We'll probably continue to play with the guys though, which they loved.

Re: ackb - When the twins were born I joined a local “moms of...

Yes! I see giving birth to multi-racial children as a MUCH different issue (likewise a bi-racial couple adopting). These are related, obviously, in terms of a white parent's responsibility to educate themselves and raise their kids with connections to their full cultural heritages. But different. Those children still have a connection to their culture in at least one of their parents. I'm speaking here specifically about white adoptive parents who are making a clear choice to raise a child entirely outside of zir cultural context (like the Romney grandchild's adoption, which is what started this conversation.)

To use a different example: I also don't think there's anything wrong with an African-American couple adopting a white baby. It's impossible to grow up in the United States with no connection to white culture. So a white child, growing up in a black family, in a black neighborhood, still won't feel the same kind of disconnection they're talking about in this post, because white culture isn't erased and stolen the way other cultures are.

Anyway, that's just my two cents

Re: little beans

Sort of. They play with cars on it occasionally, but less frequently once they got a hotwheels track from Grandpa for their birthday. Wembley likes to crawl under it to be a paleontologist and dig for fossils. I will say, though, it was super cheap at ikea and it still in great condition. Definitely worth it. I think they'll play with it with cars even more when they're a little older.

Re: I Robot | little beans

Yes. When you find something online that you want to remember or do or look at later, you "pin" it and can view it on your "board" We're thinking about schooling options and there's a bunch of stuff I want to keep track of, so I signed up. There's no original content or updates or anything, no real reason to follow me. But if you end up joining, I'm "acceberskoorb" because ackb was taken (grr.)

Re: Darth Vader lays down the law | little beans

I totally lost it laughing! They've been in size 4 for a long, long time. A year? Maybe more? They could both probably wear a 5, but 4 looks comfortable and we haven't had any problems with them. They'll probably never wear 5s since potty training is just around the corner.

Re: My little sickie Does.
