Studying Pema's work over the past few months has dramatically improved my outlook on life. I would treasure the opportunity to hear her speak online.

How do I let go of fear? Not always very well, to be honest. But when it does work, I first try to sit with the feeling, really go into it instead of running away or acting on it. Then I remind myself of three things: 1. Everything changes, so this is not a permanent thing I'm feeling. 2. Life is mostly suffering anyway, so expecting to not feel afraid right now is unreasonable and only adds another layer of pain. 3. Other people are feeling like this right now, too.

Another thing that helps is to focus on someone else instead of myself. I have an intention of helping 10 people every day. We are all connected, though we often forget that.

Thank you for asking this important question, and good luck choosing the winners from all these insightful comments!
Alexandra (alexandra@curetogether.com)

Re: The Beginner’s Guide to Self-Tracking & Analysis

Hi Mike,
Thanks for posting this! Sounds like you have a good deal of personal experience with self-tracking. If you ever want to start a Quantified Self Show&Tell meetup group in Seattle, let me know, I'm happy to help. :)
Alexandra Carmichael
Director, Quantified Self

Re: #DecisionTree @TGoetz talking about his book at the Pew Research Center with @SusannahFox

Thank you for the fantastic summary, Mark! I completely agree that increasing health literacy and making disease management more seamless and less work are key components to helping the most people get and stay healthy.

I also love this trend you quoted:
"The Internet was created to connect people and groups.

The first step is to share stories.

The next step is to share quantitative observations."

Brilliant - while I think stories are always going to be an important part of how humans learn and communicate, they can be augmented and amplified by quantitative data.

Re: Apollo Lemmon's Lifestream: Lifestreamer.ca & ApolloLemmon.com

Great, Apollo! What do you track? If you're ever in San Francisco we'd love to have you come out to a meetup! Or you could start your own in another city. :)
Be well and happy tracking,
Alexandra

Re: Open source online health record management

openMRS is another great one, being used in Africa.

Re: VC life extension opportunity redux

Absolutely! A rich repository of collective patient data will not only advance personalized medicine but contain clues to unraveling and understanding complex diseases, especially, I believe, when an open source approach is applied to analyzing the data.
Exciting times ahead to be sure.
Alexandra
www.curetogether.com

Re: Next big VC market: life extension?

Hi Melanie,
Thanks for mentioning CureTogether!
