I also mention the repetitive gameplay and Kirk and I discuss how they kept throwing stuff in for the sake of throwing things in - so I'm not sure where we're disagreeing here.

Love that you had to throw in the standard "getting paid by publishers" bit at the end there. Just because we disagree doesn't mean there's a massive conspiracy at work - we just felt differently about the game. :)

Re: Episode 13 - Skyrim Review with Bob Suicide of Suicide Girls!

Because then I might as well just rate out of 10. And then half-stars in a 10-star system becomes 20. Sites like IGN actually have a 100 point scale. I think it's ridiculous. Current rating scales keep too many reviewers from making serious and hard decisions - they're giving themselves a numeric safety net against backlash from viewers and readers.

That's part of the reason ratings on other sites are so broken - every game that comes out cannot POSSIBLY be between an 8.5 and a 10. That's ridiculous. There's no integrity in it.As an aside, my overall rating is never an average - it's how I feel about the game overall, so the rest of the categories don't have any direct numeric effect on it.

I've definitely thought about adding some qualifiers to the individual category ratings in the show notes, and now that I know someone's actually looking, I'll think about actual implementation. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Episode 13 - Skyrim Review with Bob Suicide of Suicide Girls!

OH GOD, CAN YOU GUYS TELL? I had a lot of fun with it.

Nothing here was 'scripted.' Obviously the rules were decided in advance, but everything happened as you saw.

As far as not being able to take my reviews seriously: Lizzie and I both had very limited time with the game. I had played for a little over an hour to get us to the point we started from, and Lizzie had played for about 30 minutes, so there wasn't much proficiency there. That was the whole point.

This wasn't a review of Dark Souls. And even if it was, my skill at the game wouldn't enter into it. You don't have to be a guitar virtuoso to be a music journalist. But I would be much more proficient at the game, since I'd have spent a good amount of time on it.

I play ALL the games you see on my shows, whether it's this one or Bytejacker. I play through the games, capture the footage, and write the reviews myself, and I labor over them to make sure they're informative and accurate. I take reviewing games very seriously. Lizzie writes for both @gamer AND PC Gamer, and you can bet her reviews are just as on the ball.

This episode was just a friendly competition and a way to cover a game that people had been asking to see on the show. Past episodes have all been in-depth review and discussion. Since Dark Souls has been out for a while I decided to take the opportunity to try something new. You didn't dig it and I can respect that - but some of the other stuff you're implying here is out of line, and I wanted to speak to that.

Re: Episode 8 - Dark Souls Drink-N-Death Competition with Lizzie Cuevas

I don't stage anything. Both Lizzie and I state up front that we haven't played much at all. I'm sure that if you've played the game quite a bit we look like amateurs - but that was exactly the point.

Sorry you didn't dig this episode, hope some of the other ones are more your thing!

Re: Episode 8 - Dark Souls Drink-N-Death Competition with Lizzie Cuevas

So judgey today, Cybersuchus! Lizzie was super new to the game, like she mentioned at the top of the show. Also, my creepiness is much more overt than this.
