what about professional cooks in NY? they probably make $13/hr. dishwashers? $10/hr. when they hear dudes at mcdonalds are making $2/$5 more an hour for a fraction of the work theyre gonna get pissed and threaten to leave if they dont get a raise. if the restaurant has to pay everyone at least $15 then it will have to raise its prices. business will decrease, and it might cause the restaurant to close because it cant afford to hire real cooks unless they get paid $18 to $20/hr. people that work at fast food joints do not qualify for $15/hr wage because it is not a $15/hr job compared to a real cook's job. this cook is either experienced or educated or both, well deserving of $15/hr. so if the fast food workers want $15/hr, then they need to work for it, train for several years until they earn it. Just like the rest of us.
