Martha Raddatz was excellent as moderator--I wish she and this forum were being used for all the debates.
And for once, I was happy to finally see a high ranking politician give nonsense, lies and vague generalities what they deserved--mocking derision, specific rebuttals and a no-nonsense genuine smackdown.

I'm with you. And I'm completely with the Democrats this round. The GOP/TP people are 'shoot first-(foot or weapon) and ask later, except that nowadays, they don't even do that.
Matt Cartwright, you have my vote, not just because you're a Democrat, but because I like your positions on these matters, I believe you have the integrity we need in elected officials, and I also believe that you actually THINK.

and who exactly does this enormous money pit benefit? Besides the cronies behind the scenes who keep each other in business by giving each other the lucrative contracts?
Common sense should tell you that there's no earthly reason to sink so much money into something whose function (like this airport which has not, is not, and will never be a bustling hub) is finite and not amenable to growth.

This was an extraordinary speech and a point by point forceful rebuttal of all the nonsense the GOP has been spewing.
If the naysayers here actually took the time to listen and pay attention they might learn some facts instead of standing on such laughable and inconsequential memes.
I see so many playground-level insults being hurled about by people who seem more eager to get their names in the paper, rather than making any point of value.

Having a photo id is a simple security issue, AND isn't a quick stunt being pulled on the people with short notice.
The voter id laws, the curtailed early voting etc., have been done ONLY by Republican leaders, ONLY in states where where the elections in 2008 had higher turnouts of minority voters for Obama and ONLY where those same Republicans are afraid of a close turnout.

Sorry, but Mr Gingrich is a pompous, flighty blowhard. For him to suggest, and for you to find any common sense purpose for his latest outpouring of hot air serves neither of you well.
Newt has a far grander opinion of himself than he's entitled to and his previous debacles in America's bathetic history.
His loony moony idea, even without his personal spin on it, is the current equivalent of the proverbial Antionette suggesting that the masses should all eat cake to soothe their unhappiness.
Although, to be fair, the current crop of conservative hopefuls has been an unbelievable, sadly, pathetic, laughable, but true parade of fools.
As an American, I am truly hoping that we've hit rock bottom with these idiots, but on the upside, they've provided more comedy gold and an impetus for us to pay more attention and be less complacent when it comes to trusting our leaders without thinking.
Enjoy the laughs in between bouts in incredulity!

A THIRTY YEAR employee CAN get 71 days off.
So, how many employees who have been there for 30 YEARS are there? My guess is not many.
And how many of us have been able to last 30 years in a job?
Just a common sense guesstimate, but at 30 years, a person might have earned several weeks vacation. Them, factor in normal holidays that most of us get, and we're already looking at least 35-40 days within perfectly reasonable standards. That leaves about 30 or so days in which to be ill, or take a day off for urgent personal business.
So, question is, how many of these days are ACTUALLY taken, not just allowed, and by HOW MANY?
My guess would be that that Mr. Piazza has been disingenuos, and that far more practical and truthful examples of expenses could be examined. Based on the history of how the prison has been woefully run, I would first eliminate 'friends' of those in high places as vendors, and then take a look at all staff positions, not just union members with 30 years longevity.

Had there been an ethical code of conduct despite his pedophilia inclinations, Jerry Sandusky wouldn't have raped or molested ANY children. Had ethical standards, decent values and the peace of mind that comes with having, and acting upon good conscience been involved, than this institution would have no need to be tarnished.
As for the information, there's been plenty of damning material, and the 23 page Grand Jury summary is only a brief summation of it. Keeping a code of silence only makes the initial problem (of Sandusky's pedophilia and abuse of his position) a bigger stain on our collective conscience,
Read the Grand Jury report for yourselves. All of the previously mentioned folk at our great institution knew enough to act. And much like the silence surrounding our most recent courthouse scandal, most were cowards and through their silence, condoned every last foul act.

Yes. Mr. Flora, it IS ironic. However, I congratulate you on your help with the juvenile system. For the children, this provides a needed opportunity, to learn how to make better decisions for their futures.
And also, is it not correct that clients choose their attorneys? Because it seems to me like you did the job you were hired to do, to the best of your ability, whether anyone actually liked it or not---and it equally seems to me, that you made a personal choice of your own to help get a humane system put in place for the future----and that sir, strikes me as having far more integrity, decency and moral character than I would have expected out of people in this area---for that I thank you.

I'm not native to this area, so maybe that explains a little......but word on the two downtown college campuses is showing signs of intelligent life despite the lackluster local coverage.
In this area they (the local powers that be think that campuses are an interference to be tolerated, so your worry is well-founded.
Biden is here tomorrow and as of the time I write this, McCain is trying to weasel out of the Presidential debates AND the Vice-Pres debates!!! FIND LETTERMAN'S VIDEO CLIP FROM TODAY'S TAPING.......huffingtonpost.com has it, and it is beyond priceless.!!

For all those issues and more, I came to the same conclusion.
Particularly in these times, I find myself repeatedly grateful for the fact that Sen. Obama thinks before he acts, considers consequences of all kinds, lives by his own high standards and example, and shows consistency, fortitude and focus on what is most important.
