All of this has been a fascinating read for a relatively dumb gay boy like myself. I have to wonder, after finishing this thread, if anyone except Keith thought this piece had any merit whatsoever.

I actually studied Nietzsche in my non-Ivy League school, and what drew me to him was his ability to express powerful counterintuitive ideas with pith and wit. I saw none of this in Mark's writing. It was beyond "knotty", a word which gives one a warm, cozy feeling; it was alienating, obscure and intentionally dense.

Beyond that, I absolutely defend his right to champion the obvious worth of the fundamental impulses behind the various aspects of the sexual revolution. But not at the expense of my basic civil rights.

Marriage is the culmination of many years of work and struggle on our part - but it is only a beginning, not the end of our civil rights struggle. When we finally get from society the basic infrastructure we deserve, perhaps we can also give back in the form of our experiences in the sexual killing fields. But those are two different conversations, and Greif muddled them.

Our dogs must be related. Instead of woodchips, though, it's rawhide bones for him. He doesn't seem to realize that they are not two-bite snacks.

I'm fascinated by the McGriddle. They spent quite a while in the lab creating just the right batter with maple sugar crystals in it that expand at exactly the right temperature to give the "pancake" it's yummy maple flavor throughout. Science, what can't you do? But keep in mind that once you turn 30, it all goes straight to your big wide ass, that shit is loaded with obscene amounts of fat and calories. Just a warning.

"Stir crystals into the batter, and when the mix is heated, the syrup should seep through the entire pancake matrix. "You want that maple flavor in every bite," says Wendy Cook, head of R. and D. Getting that to happen even with the new technology turned out to be a challenge. The crystal size had to be calibrated precisely so it would melt uniformly and provide a smooth texture, or as the industry calls it, mouth feel. The weight of the syrup had to be determined so when it melted it wouldn't sink to one side of the pancake. Even the grilling time had to be fixed so the pancakes wouldn't look pasty and underdone or charred and overdone. "There are very tight specs on the color of the cakes," says Cook. - Time Magazine
