I feel the same way. Love me some PKD. It's been a while from the last time I read 'We Can Remember It For You Wholesale' but this does indeed look like it might be fun. I don't remember so many explosions, but who the hell wants a scene for scene remake of a book? Remember Watchmen?

That other commenter on Facebook was me. Haha. I totally agree with you. You support what you is good and what you love. Times are tough for most everyone and sadly some corners are cut. But at the end of the day, do anyone really NEED to own every manga that you kinda dig? I've got all of the Lone Wold and Cub books, because I read them about once a year. (Read them if you haven't you can thank me later.)

I don't have a TV but I do buy season passes to shows I really like, because - as you said - it's important to support the creators creating things that you think is worth your time. It doesn't matter how you do it, just as long as they get your support.

True, but that's even more of a racket. You are paying for a digital file. You can't hold it, open it, smell it, cut it, trace it, or even quickly flip through a digital book. It's more of a racket than anything. How much does it cost Amazon or B&N to upload the files? Not anywhere near 5 bones, I can tell you that. If I'm going to buy something, it damn well better be something that is tanagable. Archaic, I'm sure, but there is something to be said of physical space and weight.

While I do agree with both comments, I do have to ask where do you go when you want to read something that US publishers of manga don't translate? I personally do not advocate the use of a scanslation to read things that you can easily get anywhere, but that doesn't mean I'm not guilty of reading long runs of manga on them. One Piece alone has only a million volumes...and counting.

I read 20th Century boys years before it was ever released over here. I was able to do this because of the fans. They took the time to scan the pages. They took the time to translate it. They took the time to take said translation and photoshop it onto the page. They took that time to upload it. And are the ones taking the risk when they do this super time consuming task.

They care more about this stuff than you or I ever will. They are, as far as I can tell, not making any money off of this.

It's a real slippery slope, because as an artist -in the comic field, no less - I do want to have control and be able to protect my work, and yet I don't think what the scanner and translators and uploaders is really that wrong. They simply want to share something that they truly love.

Is it illeagle? Yeah. Of course. You are getting something for free that should cost you some buckaroos. Is it wrong? I don't really think so. As with all discussion about downloadable media, the real problem is that we all trying to stare out over the looming horizon of the future, while we have our cocked half way back, looking at where we cam from.

As for the anime - I could be wrong here - I always assumed it was more expensive because they have to translate it, add subtitles, and god-forbid a terrible English voice track. At least this was true back in the day of VHS tapes. Hell, if you wanted a subtitled video you actually had to pay extra for it. This was quite a rub for any snobby anime fan back in the 80s and early 90s.

And don't even get me started on dubs. This old man could rant forever.

so, i have to ask. are you watching the new kamen rider series? and if so, how you like it? i think it, like alot of the older toku shows, has a really good sense of camp and good action.

my bad. sorry to assume you have not seen kikaider. and please dont get me wrong, im not one of the aforementioned fans. i like hakiader. i mean i really like hakiader. hes such a badass. both are really fun shows but at the end of the day, i think it was the music in kikaider, that won me over.

its always been one of my personal favorites. its a little older than the hakaider, but i feel it really has a close to perfect balance of cheese and awesomeness.

I picked up Dirt after reading this and could not put it down until I had finished it. Really a lovely little game. Now that it is finished, I am looking forward to seeing all of the little world details that I enjoyed finding.
