Personally I really despise the notification system on the iPhone.
1.) It's hard to keep track of
2.) It's unreliable on what application has priority on what notification you should see when you come out of stand-by.
3.) It leads to a lot of notifications being missed if you don't have the application on the first page.

I think the Android and webOS notification system are both leaps and bounds better than the iPhone currently.

Re: Quick thoughts on iPhone OS 4 beta

Bijan, you positive you can't backup? I've been using 4.0 from beta 1 and the backup has been working fine for me. However, I manually do the backup via right-clicking on the iPhone in iTunes and clicking backup.
As for multitasking, @eliafreedman was right Apps have to be recoded and recompiled to take advantage of multitasking. Which as of right now is also just limited to the iPhone 3GS and only to applications that do music, location, or voip. So for instance instant-messaging apps will still be relegated to use the unreliable notification system.

Re: Initial Thoughts on Apple iPad = Slight Dissappointment

The most popular gaming system right now is the Wii :)... I agree though. We'll just have to wait and see. It does the same thing as my iPod Touch does except it's on a bigger screen. Hopefully they announce some more features soon.

Re: Google Nexus One Giveaway!

Bada Bing Bada Boom

Re: The Perfect App To Start Your Weekend Off With A Drink - Or Several Drinks. We released an application a few weeks back (http://www.powertunesplus.com) Apple was incessant about not using the term 'Power Hour' in the name, description, or application.

Our application was rejected twice, once on the basis that we were promoting excessive consumption of alcohol and another on the idea that you can't show anything remotely related to alcohol in your application. The first piece, which we found a little disturbing due to the fact that there are plenty of drinking games and drinking applications in the App Store seemed hypocritical. Also, Apple was very adamant about prohibiting the excessive consumption of anything, for example I was told "You can't change the app to make it say take a bite of food".

Re: Steve Jobs on Amazon and Ice Cream – Bits Blog – NYTimes.com

Yeah, it's pretty nasty at how thin the iPod Nano is. Best part of the article though is this:

“There are some things that I’m focusing a lot of attention on right now—to polish,” he said. “No, I don’t think we’re going to miss a beat. We have some really good stuff coming up.”

I really hope the tablet, a new iPhone OS w/ better notification and bg processing is on this list.

Re: bijansabet.com | a tumblelog by Bijan Sabet | Our portfolio company OMGPOP has a new game coming...

Not to sound like a jackass, but isn't this a carbon copy of Mario Kart?? It would be nice to update Facebook and twitter together, with only certain statuses. For example, there are various times when in twitter people do actually post their status, it would be nice if they could just add @facebook <message> and have their Facebook status updated also. All other times though twitter would exclusively be updated. I know there is a twitter application which updates your Facebook status, but that just seems like overkill most of the time. I consider twitter to be more of a micro-blogging platform then a true status platform, where-as I consider Facebook status the opposite.

Re: Boxee

whoops forgot the email address: aakar.shroff AT gmail

Re: Boxee

Love to get an invite if you have some left

Re: iPhone 3G giveaway!

boobs

Re: Boston: Comcast’s TiVo boxes already having trouble?

It is nice to able to look at the Tivo branded OS as opposed to the Comcast version. But as I stated above, I've been noticing issues with mine ever since I upgraded the Motorola boxes. One of the most annoying issues is that every now and then, when switching channels the Motorola box will automatically cause my screen to go green, I assume it's having an issue switching from HD to non-HD or vice-versa. I haven't found a solution for it except to restart the box and hope to only be forced to wait 5-10 minutes for the boot-up process as opposed to an hour or more.

All the waiting we did for Comcast to roll-out this upgrade seems to be for nothing. They haven't solved issues relating to the install process or post-install process. I'd like to think that the issues I've seen are only hurting a small amount of the population, but knowing Comcast I highly doubt that, that is the case. I personally think they should have just given people having issues a new box with the software pre-installed. Obviously they would have to allow us the ability to some-how move our recorded programs from the old box to the new box, but it would have been less of a hassle I think.

Re: Boston: Comcast’s TiVo boxes already having trouble?

We had the Tivo update installed this past Saturday at our apartment. What a pain it was. We had 4 boxes that needed the software update, 3 of which went through the "Welcome Starting Up" snag that you are seeing. The technician said that our signal was quite low and was causing issues with the update. After he pulled out our wall-sockets in all the rooms and figured out the issue it took another few hours before the "Welcome Starting Up" screen proceeded to the Tivo screen. I'll be honest, so far the pain wasn't worth it. The box in my bedroom has needed to be restarted three times and the boot up process for the Tivo has taken anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour. The tech also had to ask his rep to push out the update three times to 2 of our boxes. And 1 of our box isn't allowing us to purchase anything from On Demand.

Painful.... oh so painful.
