I request Amazon send the books to my Aunt who lives in the United States who then brings the books to Portugal every time she visits me.

Having the Kindle 2 would be a dream come true, since I wouldn’t have to bother my Aunt anymore, I wouldn’t have to pay international transportation and would be able to buy a book and start reading it all on the same day!

Having this in mind I’ve been reading all your posts and comments on this Blog which were very helpful. However I’ve read some contradictions that I would like to clarify. Based on all that I’ve read I would like someone to confirm that these are the steps I should follow and answer some questions that I still have:

1.	Create a separate Amazon.com account with a United States address and phone number (I will be using my Aunts address and phone number) and with a gmail.com email account. In this new account I will not insert a credit card number.

2.	I am going to ask a friend in the US to buy a Kindle 2 with his US credit card and send it to my Aunt’s house. My Aunt will be coming to Portugal soon and will bring the Kindle 2.

Q: Does the Kindle 2 really have to be bought using a US credit Card, or can I order it using my Portuguese Credit card through my normal Amazon.com account and send it to my aunt’s house?

3.	After receiving the Kindle 2, I will use my Portuguese credit card on my normal Amazon.com account to buy a Gift Certificate and e-mail the code to my new Amazon.com account.

4.	Once I receive the Kindle 2 I will register it to my new Amazon.com account. I should ensure that one click purchasing is off and that wireless is turned off on the Kindle 2.

Q. How should the register of the Kindle be made? Do I have to connect the Kindle to my PC? Is there a code I should put into my new account?

5.	I will use the gift certificate to make my first purchase, navigate to manage “My Kindle” and scroll down to purchase history. Select “Download to Computer” from the drop down beside the name of my book purchase. Download the book straight to my Kindle (connected via USB).

What do you think?

Thanks!

Michael

Re: amazon kindle outside of the US

Hi, I’m an American currently living in Portugal and I usually buy books on Amazon.com using a Portuguese credit card.
