when i worked at espn from 02-04 we looked at blogs as a layer of content that would add colour and texture to the discussion kicked off by the primary source (often us, but also nytimes, wapo -- basically bigger media).

and by "we" i mean the geeks - the journos & editors were terrified of pointing people off-site b/c they looked at customer-created information as a substitute, not a compliment.

Denmark has the happies populace of any country (the true measure of success imho. here, we often use money as a proxy for happiness, so why not just measure happiness instead?)

Denmark is the least corrupt country in the world

Denmark is also the best country in the world for business

We could also take note of how Sweden dealt with its own bank crisis in the 90s

have you read team of rivals? lincoln employed a similar strategy - take the best candidates, even if they disagreed (or, gasp, weren't even from his party). the rationale was that he wanted a great cabinet and that the best decisions come from disagreement over ideas. it's an interesting parallel.

hey charles,

check out audio technica. i'm an earbud / headphone nerd (gone through sony, grado, etymotics, and audio technica buds and phones) and they're absolutely brilliant. i have the ATH-ANC3s, which are noise-canceling but do a great job when NC is turned off. i think they also have a new pair of earbuds out too... picked them up at the apple store for $150 but you can def get them cheaper online - i was leaving for argentina and needed a good pair of lightweight NC earbuds and took a flyer on them since i loved their headphones. have since sold 'em all except for the ANC3s.

+1 for envato (collis is also nomadic) and spolsky or jeff atwood re: stackoverflow. SO launched 9m ago and is already doing 3.5M monthly visitors.

Chris Anderson RE: TED would be excellent - i know *so* many people who've been affected by TED talks. he's really helped build an incredible platform for raising awareness about all the amazing things people are doing in this world! plus IIRC they're a non-profit so that's an interesting angle too.

Also, Charlie Munger and Richard Branson would be awesome :)
