I honestly don't know of any churches with only male pastors/elders that do not have faulty doctrine somewhere... at least from my particular point of view. I think I have some disagreement with some point on nearly every statement of faith I've ever read, some minor, some major, but I'm not sure there's a church out there I don't have some theological quibble with.

I once got offered a job with a candidate for the US House of Representatives because I saw him on a flight and approached him in the airport after we got off the plane. He wanted someone who would take initiative and could reach out to folks. My simple act of boldness was tangible evidence of my qualifications. Sometimes demonstrating effort and interest is an interview in and of itself.

I do speak code and can build queries, but I'm a pastor now. And I don't want to have to do that every time I need a simple list or piece of information.

And I certainly don't want to have to choose between trying to train all of my peers and volunteers to use said system or just doing it for them because it's so frustrating for them and me.

Alright, I got this working except for auto-forwarding the emails sent by ifttt to my Gmail. The problem is that Gmail wants to verify the address I'm forwarding to, but I can't have a verification code sent to the 16463548278.33669.dPdcjkRaVz@txt.voice.google.com.

Have you figured out a way around this?

Make contacts. Network online. Fundraise. You have to move the ball down the field.

If it really isn't yet God's timing, you can still do those first two. You can read and learn. Prepare yourself so that when it is God's time, you're ready to go.

In fact, it might not be God's time because something or someone else isn't ready, but often it's because we're not ready yet.

Hey Jennifer, thanks for dropping by the blog. Maybe it would help to look at it like this.

There's a cause you believe in, and you work hard for that cause. Your work on the cause actually builds your own network and helps you advance your career, but at some point you become more focused on your own personal advancement than the cause that you had cared so much about. You moved from being an outward focused person to a self focused person.

Now, by some standards that's not a problem, but according to my beliefs (and I would bet the beliefs of many others) it's not a good thing.

Not saying you're wrong, but... it's interesting that none of those folks were alive (with the exception of a couple of the Beatles) when social media existed. The more interesting question might be: Is it still possible to change the world without using social media.

Totally agree. Often times when I buy a small group leader lunch they'll be very appreciative, and I'm like, "Yep, you spend dozens or hundreds of hours serving, and I'll buy you lunch." Seems like a good tradeoff.

There's not much of a distinction for me. As a pastor, I tend to read a lot of leadership books, as well as some about theology and practical ministry. I enjoy them most of the time. I probably need to read some novels and the like just to get the creative juices flowing.

Right now I'm reading Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas; Letters and Papers from Prison, a collection of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's prison writings; and The One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams by Ken Blanchard.

His posts are infrequent but incredibly insightful. He's a brilliant guy. I'm pretty sure he's read more theology than I have, and he's a lawyer, not a pastor.
