There is a way to fend off Quagga just as there is a way to keep Lake Mead FULL ( 28.5 million acre feet) with fresh water from a NON-TRIBUTARY Source that can be developed without harm to the environment or the water rights of anyone, anywhere, but protection of intellectual property rights needs to be part of the deal to come up with the answers. Considering that CA, NV, AZ and the Bureau could all benefit in a variety of ways ( Lake Mead generates 2000 megawatts of RENEWABLE ENERGY each year worth $2 billion/year, the Colorado River Delta could be restored for another $2 billion/year, Vegas & CA need the water, etc.) a prudent agencies & states would formulate a way to investigate & verify such alternatives & options.
WaterSource/WaterBank waterrdw@yahoo.com Retired Water Rights Analyst

Re: Lined canal ends seepage, saving water

Once again ( 5 years have passed already) ... CA needs to investigate/verify a truly new NON-TRIBUTARY fresh water Source that can be developed to deliver one million acre feet EACH YEAR to keep Lake Mead reasonably FULL and generating 2000 megawatts of RENEWABLE ENERGY in a facility that has already been bought and paid for by the American people. Development of the Source will not damage the environment or the water rights of anyone, anywhere ! Because the water is NON-TRIBUTARY, it can be accumulated in the available air space in Lake Mead.

A measly 68,000 acre feet could be released each year for recharge purposes into the old All American Canal to keep the 1.3 million inhabitants of Mexicali from drying up in exchange for Mexico's enforcement of drug and immigration laws.

With inter-governmental cooperation the Source can be developed to be delivered WITHOUT POWER and without a Quagga Mussel problem ! Fluoride added to drinking water,"to improve dental health", enters the fresh water eco-system, in various ways, at levels above 0.2 mg/L. This factor, if considered in "critical habitat" decisions, should lead to the development of a strategy calling for a ban on fluoridation.

Researchers following children from birth found almost twice the amount of dental fluorosis in children drinking fluoridated water but no less decay than children drinking non-fluoridated water.AADR 35th Annual Meeting in Orlando:Abstract # 0153 - Dental caries and fluorosis in relation to water fluoride levels, I Hong, SM Levy, J Warren, B Broffitt

Re: New creed on water: Use less, pay more

Strange that MWD & CA have no interest in a truly new fresh water Source that can be developed without damage to the environment or the water rights of others.
